Oh, BTW, did I mention that FEATHERING comes back AFTER the alignment...

I'm in such a bind because I love the car. I've been offered an EVO VIII and STi at sticker, but I don't want to drive something so ugly. I sat in the EVO on Wednesday at a local dealer and didn't like the clutch placement. I'm so used to the way the Z's clutch travels almost perfectly horizontally, that other clutches that tend to push down towards the floor just feel weird.
The front end on the EVO is just hideous and that wing is overkill. Think Pontiac Grand Am when you see the grill in person.
I CAN feel you there, it's like Norm walking into the bar at Cheers when I arrive at the service department of my dealership. I ususally leave a trail of bitches and moans everytime I'm there.
I'm at a loss really for what the next steps are. I've had all the BS work done...alignment, tires cross-swapped etc. and now have been pressing my Nissan Consumer person for new tires and more a permanent replacement. I'm not really sure what to do next.
Oh, just to top it off since the alighment my car now pulls to the right....before it never did that!

Here's a copy of my first NNA reply to the problem: Thank you for contacting Nissan you ungreatful ***. A member of our Consumer Affairs
department will be contacting you to follow up on your email message.
Please be certain to submit only one contact request on any given topic,
as you will be contacted separately for each request you submit. If this is
an urgent matter, please call (800)NISSAN-1.

WTF? You know, my car doesn't feel as stable at high speed (100+) as it did before the alignment, what about yours? Maybe they should drop the price by $3000 so we don't feel so bad about burning through tires every 5000 miles.

That is simply not true!
I had posted several inquiries on the G35C forums and it appears that nobody is having this kind of problem over there. Now this is the same front end as the Z but just different suspension.
Three big differences between Z and G:
1. Tire choice -- Z=Bridgestone G=Michelin But really this should not matter too much.
2. G has softer suspension -- could be part of the problem for Z -- mismatched dampers and springs.
3. Alignment settings on G? Anyone know? They might have less camber.
Since Nissan does not seem to be taking this too seriously we might have too all band together and force a class action lawsuit. I personally will not own a car that goes through tires every 5k-10k miles and I don't even drive it that hard.
If the problem continues for me I will keep pushing Nissan to fix the tire feathering. I had my alignment corrected which was way out of spec and am getting new tires (S03's) from Nissan. If the problem continues I will go after the Lemon Law. Just gotta be sure to take lots of pics and records of everything.

i'm in for the class action. i'm sick of this SH*T!!! took my car to thousand oaks nissan and the service advisor told me that these are high performance tires and that i corner too much. BULLSH*T!!! so i called NNA and they called the dealer after. service advisor calls me back to bring it in for an alignment. picked up my car and advisor said everything was in check except for the thrust angle. silly me, didn't check the alignment spec sheet before i went home (i didn't want to deal with this steve guy anymore) but later discovered that they used 92-95 300zx alignment specs! so i said f**k it, just gonna bring it to another dealer (the service advisor, steve at thousand oaks is a f**ken jerk!!!). torrance nissan inspected my car and they said my tire psi was too high. that was all they said, and i didn't want to waste my precious time since they have no clue of what's going on. I GIVE UP!!!

It may be the newer cars just don't have enough miles on them yet. I looked for cupping several thousand miles ago and didn't see any. But last week I drove though some very fine sand on a parking lot at it plainly revealed cupping
The Nissan TSB is very specific about the VIN and date in terms of the cars affected. Now either Nissan picked the #'s out of the air or something was changed at that point. My pure guess is that one of the following occured on that build date:
1) the engineering spec on the suspension was changed
2) a flaw or quality control problem on a part received from a vendor was identified and corrected
3) the tie-down procedure for car shipping was changed to prevent suspension damage.
The poll in this forum seems to indicate that the the early VIN's are affected. The 2 or 3 later VIN's shown may be misreading their #'s and thinking that they have VIN's of 12000 and 14000 when they really have 2000 and 4000, since the first digit is for indicating side airbags.
I hope for the later buyers like me that I'm right. I sympathize with you guys that have the problem. I know from experience what a bummer it is to have a car you enjoy turn into a constant headache. Hopefully the TSB is just a temporary fix that will be replaced by a recall when Nissan determines the best (read economical) true fix.

Man this really makes me sad to hear everyone still having problems with this. I didn't even know what feathering was until Brad (droid) showed me his tires on his Z. Sure enough, mine had it too. On top of that, my rear tires went bald after 6k miles! I've called several times to NNA and bitched that something was wrong, but they blew me off and told me to take it up with Bridgestone. So bridgestone tells me there's no warranty on mileage on the RE040's, and I'm SOL. So, I got my alignment fixed and a set of S03's, in hopes my problems would go away. That was about 3k miles ago. I haven't looked very hard to see if I have any feathering again, but dammit my tread is already halfway gone on the back again. What the hell am I supposed to do?! I can't afford new tires on this thing every 4-6 months!
Brad and Scott - Who at NNA have you talked to, and do you think they'll hook me up with some free tires?

1. I am in on the lawsuit. We need to let them know that this sh%$ will not be tolerated. A fix must be made and now.
2. Had my alignment corrected three weeks ago and the wear is worse now then it was before. Way f$%#@ng worse. I was so mad driving home last night. This thing sounds like mudders on the pavement.
3. I am calling NNA to complain and get my rights ajudicated and pronto. I want new tires every 5000 miles until they fix this problem. If we all did this, a fix would be done in no time.
I am freaking pissed off!!! I want heads and I want them now!!!
Operation Free Iraq will become Operation Free me of these freaking feathering tires and now!!!
(No disservice to the brave soldiers. Just needed to vent)

Brad,
Just got my tires swapped from left to right and aligned and last night I thought I was imagining things when the car didn't feel as tight even at 40 m.p.h... I'm not sure if it's my imagination.. but after you mentioning this.. I have a feeling my suspicions are now true!
F..k!!

You guys have me paranoid now. I've got a low vin. The car has been in storage for the last 4 months. Getting it out tomorrow. Now this will be the first thing I check. I already have seat fuzz. Arg.

Sorry but my Z was built in October and the VIN is in the 7000's. The idea that the problem is solved in Z's after that build date in the TSB is false. Your guess that Nissan pulled the VIN # out of the air is probably the truth.
As for the folks that don't have the problem, any chance you could get the alignment specs from your dealer and send them to Nissan so they can figure out what to do?
