Default oil leak?????

Ok ok ok....i did the whole search thingie and didnt come up with a good enough answer so now im here.

my problem : i smell burning oil after ive gotten on it a lil. thought maybe it was just oil spilled on the manifolds and that it would go away...but its been three weeks and STILL smellin it. any thoughts??? ive only owned this car for a few weeks and dont know a WHOLE LOT about them. '03 Touring. 52,000+ on it.

would appreciate ANY suggestions. besides taking it to the dealer...cuz unlike alot of you....im not rich.

Smelling oil doesn’t count.

a. Put some paper on the garage floor. Park the car overnight. Do you see spots of oil on the paper?

b. Check the oil level. Drive the car 1,000 miles. Check the level again.

+1.check for visible spots on the garage floor. If you have access to a floor jack, lift the car up and get underneath with a flashlight. If you see "wet" oil, chances are you have a leak in the vacinity.

If your smelling oil your probably burning it. Definitly check for leaks, do everything that has been suggested here but w/50,000+ on a used 03 no telling how hard the former owners have ragged it. If it smells like oil after you get on it i.e.-going from high rpms back to normal rpms and then you smell oil, a little is getting past the rings. Not a big prob as long as the car behaves normally day to day. depending how often and hard you get on it you may not even notice a difference on the dipstick.

Well....i'll try the whole put some paper down under the car thing....since there are oil spots all over anyways since i live at an apartment complex.....hopefully i'll figure this out. its kinda scary.....the car runs absolutely perfect.....then again...this is my first Z so i guess i wouldnt really know. no problems with oil pressure or overheating.......no lag in acceleration...... no smoke out of the tailpipes.....other than that darned smell i dont see or feel anything else that may be wrong. i sure hope to get to the bottom of it tho. thanks for all your help guys. would over filling the oil have anything to do with it????? i got this car from a non-nissan dealership.....which i know for a fact has 16-18 year olds doin oil changes....so i think maybe they could have overfilled...just a thought.
