Default Window Motorrrr:)

so i've been having problems with the window for a few months now, when it finally went out about 3 months ago.. i went to advanced auto.. and spend the $150 for one of the their window motors..(with the lifetime warranty)<<
and then i spent another $100 at a shop so they can install it... and then 2 months after that... it went out again.. so i decided to save the money and do it myself.. it was actually pretty simple.. i never turned in the original one as the core.. so now i had that one motor laying aroudn and the one from advanced installed but it was dead.. so i took the original one in, and they mailed me a new one within like 3 days , took everything apart... took the old one off.. and installed the new one... so yeah it went smooth, and works great now.. i think i forgot to do that window reset thing, cuz when i pull all the way up on the switch it closes all the way and then comes back down a few inches... but it's all good... so yeah.. save the money... cuz it'll keep dying regardless and get it from advanced and do it yourselff!

I wonder if anyone has ever figured out why these motors go bad.

Mine needs replacing too, but I'm still within my warrantee. My drivers side doesn't move unless I pound on the door.

I can get a part number for you when I get home, I have the service manual cd.

nah they only have one, just go to advanced and tell em you need the driver side window for your car.. or go on their website that's where i ordered mine, and then you go to a local one if u ever need it replaced.. and you don't have to pay for the shipping of the defect.. it's all on them from there on...

Don't know. Cheap window motors are my guess. My bros Trans Am WS.6 had numerous window motor changes since he bought it. This is also a very common problem on f-body's.

I have yet to replace one, but have replaced dozens in other vehicles. Fortunatly in many, its not the motor but the clutch that goes out and a rebuild kit is 30.00 or so. Elec. motors go bad, thats life, but if they go bad early it is because of a defect or a defect in overall design. 150.00 isnt toooo bad for a motor and I hope it works for u ----But beware of places that push their "lifetime" warrenty-----That does not mean it is a "super" part---its a hook to get u to buy and they KNOW what percentage of people will never bring it back and what they are paying for them in comparisome to what they are selling them for makes up their "loss" and the customer still eats the labor.

I have this same problem and it's such a PITA. I did the take it all apart and clean out the black dust, put it all back together fix, but that only held up for about 3 days. I'll be picking up my new window motor at Advance this weekend. If this is indeed the same part, I can tell ya' I'll be wearing out their "lifetime" warranty for sure.

My driver side window went out at only 15k miles, it was replaced for free by nissan, my passenger is going to go out soon, because I can hear the motor struggling.

The dealer should replace it for free as long as it's within the 35k / 3 yr standard warrenty. It saved me about $150.

Okay I just ordered my window motor and here's the skinny on the Limited Lifetime waranty from Advance Auto Parts. Guy said that they waranty the part for as long as you own the car, if it goes out then they replace it for free...once. After that you have a 90day waranty on motor no.2. Oh, and they are remanufactured parts also. I went ahead and dropped the $143 + $25 core and $2 for 2 day shipping to get mine. Can't wait to take apart my door AGAIN!! Yes!! Maybe Auto Zone has a better deal I'm not sure, but Advance is closer to my house.

then do this... don't turn in the core... when the one that u bought from advance goes out... bring in the original one from nissan that u had laying around.. advanced will send you a new one... replaced the one that is in the door(the first one from advanced) with the new one they sent.. and in 90 days whether or not it goes out, bring in the one that went bad(that was in the door) while you took the original one from nissan in... and just do that every 3 months work the system!!! haah
get it?

Dealer charged me 50 bucks to replace my driver side motor. Thank god I decided on getting the extended warranty (gold plan). Seems like I will be making good use of it (multiple window motor replacements).

I'm covered till January 2010 or 100,000 miles. Whichever comes first.

Finally got around to replacing mine this past weekend and your right, it's not that hard. One thing's for sure, it's the perfect time to get rid of the excess greese that causes those streaks on the glasss. I just took an old rag and wiped the inside of each guide rail and yola! Problem solved.
