Default Is drilling really required to fix a small dent?

ok so I was getting into my car and i accidently hit my knee cap against the fender. I have a little dent right next to the drivers door on my rear quarter panel. I took the car to the body shop and he called the dent guy who apparently will need to a drill a small hole inside the door to get it out? Is that really needed? I would hate to drill. I saw the ding king stuff and the guy said it wouldnt work? any suggestions?

They shouldn't have to do that...My wife had a pretty good dent in the rear of her Tahoe and they got that out without any holes. They might've taken off the back panel but I doubt it. Take it to another body ship for another opinion.

locaton , location ....it all depends on the location of the ding. Drilling is only required to access the ding if there isn't any other way around it. The hole will be plugged with a small rubber plug afterwards and you probably wouldn't even know where it was drilled. Friend of mine has 2000$ worth of tools for dings, but it takes years of experience to pull it off like magic.

ya he said they would put a plug in afterwards inside the door. Still, i don't want a hole being drilled. The dent is only visible if you stand behind the tailight and look at it, but it still buggs me. Ill take it to another shop. Do you guys think Nissan could do it? By the way, the body guy said it would cost 100$ max to fix it, which is not bad.

Try to find a paintless repair shop that has a lot of work going on. I have ha ddings pulled by my guy who work for a large car auction here and he is truly an artist. He says the only way to really learn this is by doing it everyday, all day. He says that when he goes on vacation it takes a week for him to get the feel back. He uses either a push rod from the inside or a hot-glued pad from the outside.

Ding King was a complete waste of money and did not work at all. It's complete crap. I ended up having a dent wizard fix it. 100$ and it looks like new in the end. Im happy.

Simply go to a reputable PDR guy (ask the dealership for recoemmendations; they get dinged up new cars all the time) and have him do it. A skilled guy can do wonders with just a few different-sized suction cups.

Hi,

I know this is an old post, but did they end up drilling a hole to access the ding? or where they able to find another way in. I have a same problem.. but mine is closer to the wheel well.

THanks

not to grave dig, but usually small dings will be accessed from the side of the paneling. They'll drill a hole, insert a tool down to the ding and pop back out. They do not drill a hole right on top of the ding

I'm not sure about the Z, but I've many door and quarter panel dings removed from my old 96 Eclipse. They never once had to drill holes to repair the dings...
