how I got rid on my 3-4 rattles

I also have another problem. When my windows are rolled down, I can hear something tapping on the glass when I am driving on somewhat even roads. Will get the window streak TSB and tell them to make sure the sound is not there when they put every back together.
Finally, I'll will post this on the proper thread, but I just got word that the backorder for the tires with anyone having the feathering issue will be shipped by the end of May to early June. I think NNA is trying really hard to figure out what is really wrong with the suspension/align/tires before they propose a fix. All I know is, I can't wait until my Z feels like what it was when I had it for the first 3K miles.
10K now.

I have a rattle on the driver's side door. You can barely hear it only when it is cold. I have tried to tape the fuse box door under the left side of the dash, I though I had it by putting my fingers in the door vent (the noise reappeared).
I even looked in the engine compartment, to no avail. I know it will get worse before it gets better. With all of the plastic in the dash, we are bound to have rattles, especially in cold weather.
I wonder if all of the plastic hinges holding the underpanels together are not correctly aligned? I will look at that next.

with regards to you window rattle, the TSB for the window grease will NOT fix this. Apparently, this cracking or rattling of the windows over bumps occurs primarily when you roll the window about half way down.
I had my window grease taken care of and complained at 2 different dealerships about the occassional rattling. Apparently, thats is just the way the windows are. They are firmly in place, the rattling comes from slight leighway in the up/down scroll mechanism when its halfway down. (to verify this, with the window halfway down, you can give it a tug down a few more inches and the rattling goes away)
So just a little heads up, dont expect much results with regards to getting that sound removed. I hope I'm wrong, but its not a big deal.

I just started hearing a pretty loud rattle coming from the driver's side windshield defroster vent at the front of the dash. I'm not sure if its the vent, where the glass meets the dash, or the alarm LED cover. I'll check it out later and see if I can pinpoint it. Other than that, the only other rattle is a tiny squishy noise coming from somewhere in the front of the headliner. I haven't pinpointed that one, either, but I'm pretty sure its not the visor mirror...
I have solved my two rattle problems. The vibration I was getting from the in-dash cupholder is now solved. I had somebody take the cupholder out and break off the parts that drop down when the cupholder was pulled from the dash. Now all that is left is the the ring that wraps around the cup. This seems to have solved the problem. I was not getting good results from the silicon spray solution or replacing the cupholder with a new one.
My other problem was coming from the driver's visor side curtail air bag area. I happened to grab the black plastic around the the A-Frame between the windshield and the driver's door and pushed down on it. It seems to work fairly effectively and occasionally if it starts to act up I will push down on it again. This problem seemed to happen on brick or rough roads. I am a happy camper for now.

I have had most of the rattles that have been described, as mentioned erarlier, all cars get rattles, period... if you've had a car without, you're either deaf, or very lucky. I sell Toyotas for a living, and they all get this stuff. I have the factory service manual on cd for the 350z and there is a whole section on sqeeks and rattles and just like Toyota, there is a squeek and rattle kit you can order at the dealership. I don't know how much the kit is, but the Toyota one is $200, I wouldn't pay that, but the guys in parts had several partially used kits that they gave me a ton of the stuff in them; mainly different thicknesses of felt pads, super thin felt tape, neoprene foam hard and soft etc. Everyone has 12mos or 12k miles that is your "Adjustment Period," which the dealership or Nissan I should say, will fix all rattles squeeks ect for free and they can't complain, it's part of the warranty. On previous cars, however, I've found that Techs often tear stuff up a bit so I prefer to do it myself. In the service manual, it shows how to take apart every panel etc. but for those hard ones, you can take it to the dealer. I've personally taken apart most of my interior, and put vb2 sound deadener on the exposed panels while I was at it. The road noise is SOOOOO much less this the sound deadening installed. In the service manual it states that gage clusters, connections to windshields, and guage lenses are very common on all cars for creaks or rattles also wiring that's rapped in tape will creak or make a cracking sound. One of the most common is door interior panels clicking or popping against the metal of the door, great spot for foam or felt tape, also around the center console where the stereo is, there are a dozen spots that can start rattling, that's where the super thin black felt taper comes in handy, also wrapping wiring with foam. Some of the dealer's techniques are not permanent, such as spraying silicone or grease into areas, in the manual it even states that it will only last a few months, but eventually your year will be up and then you're on your own. Just as well though, on my last car, they broke three clips that were connected to the dash its self. I would go to you're local Nissan or ford or honda or wherever, and just go to the parts guys, and see if they have any left over squeek and rattle kits. Parts guys are usually way more chill then the rest and will probably give you stuff for free... the manufacturer already paid for that used kit on a warranty claim, and will order a new one for the next claim, this results in a bunch of left over kits!!!
Good Luck

I have a rattle that has to do with the apparent aluminum ring around the shfter. I can turn this ring and it will get tighter and quiter, but it's there again in a day or so. ANy ideas?
Also, a terrible squeak when I push the multi-funtion computer button.
Thanks in advance,
Stu E.

I was searching on this forum for solutions to my dash rattle, I found a few, but wanted to share my experience.
A dash rattle (most often heard over rough road), started about 5000 miles. Slowly got worse. I found that by just gently resting my hand on top of the dash it went away. I deduced the dash was lightly touching the base of the windshield. I fixed it by pushing some small felt circles (like those to stop kitchen drawers from slamming) between the windshield and dash. Problem fixed!
However, 2 weeks later, the rattle is coming back. I guess it is not touching the windshield after all, it is something else, and it is slowly getting looser and looser.
Maybe I'll just take it in to the dealership and get them to look at some other nits I have:
- Tire moan at low speed
- Transmission rattle at idle
- paint chips on the nose (paint seems really brittle)
- drivers seat slightly loose, kinda rocks from side to side very slightly
- rattle that comes and goes in the back somewhere
- grease streaks on windows

Is anyone having a problem with a rattle in the dash on the passengers side?
Sounds to me like it is right under the air bag on the front edge of the dash. It only happens in the morning or when the car is cold but everytime I take it to the dealer they can't hear a thing. Proximity effect I guess.
I may have to leave the car overnight just so they can hear it.

So I just got back from the dealer and here was the result.
1. Dash Rattle: they couldn't hear it. Said in tech report with "stiff sports car suspension and low profile tires this is normal". The rattle is still there, and I'll continue stuffing more felt circles behind the dash. It seems to work.
2. They did find a rattle in the metal trim on the steering wheel - it comes and goes, I had forgotten about it, but apparently it surfaced while they were test driving. "Airbag cover was making contact", with what was unspecified.
3. Grease on windows - fitted the kit described elsewhere. Problem solved.
4. Feathered tires: rotated tires, but as they are unidirectional did it by swapping tires on the rims from side to side. Service advisor told me that Nissan knew of the problem and was working on a fix. Dealer report states "set toe angle to max toe"
5. Clutch throwout bearing rumble: described as normal. Also warned me that clutch is NOT covered under warranty!
6. Loose seat: tech report states that "I checked 2 other new units in the showroom and both are the same. Nothing abnormal found"
Hope this helps

I kinda have a wierd thought after reading all the ratle/ noise complaints
could many of them have developed from modifications like super thumpin stereos?
or lowered suspentions with harder rides or super hard tires?
im guessin most were not there when car was purchased or wouldnt sell to many hehe
