Default Engine noise and rattle

New to the forum and the Z world. I picked up a 03 touring a month ago with 25k miles, the car is great but i just started to notice a noise and rattle that are really annoying.

1. When I start up the car, the cabin noise is pretty quiet and all I can hear is the exhaust. Once the car warms up a bit, I start to hear a noise that sounds like a fan and is pretty overwhelming in the cabin. Is it just a really loud engine fan? Any clues?

2. I hear a rattle which i *think* is coming from the rear hatch when going over bumpy roads, it sounds like something rubbing up against the glass or something but I can't really pin point it.

For those who tell me to search, I have....for the past two hours now.

Thanks for your help!

Erik

are you talking about the famous cement mixer noise the z engine makes at idle? and you got a 6sp/manual....
some Z's make that noise at idle and some don't. My 03 had it at one time and now it's been gone for a year and hasn't return.
i've seen some 03 Zs rattled at the rear hatch and it was fixed while still under warranty.

if your Z drives fine and the gear shift is nice and smooth, i wouldn't worry about it. Nissan oem flywheel/pressure plate/clutch/throwout bearing combination make that noise at idle. i've read it somewhere that aftermarket lightweight flywheel and clutch would make the noise even worse.
