Default Difficult to engage first & reverse gear only when car is running

It is easy to shift into all gears when the car is turned off but it is hard to shift especially into first and reverse gear when the car is running.

What could be wrong? The clutch line has been bled.

are you rolling when you try to engage the gears? Reverse gear won't reverse if you're rolling forward. 1st gear is a hard get to get into no matter what.

not rolling. Has much more resistance than two previous clutches I had.

Is it cold outside when this happens? I have the same problem below 50F but it goes away after the drivetrain warms up. Also have aftermarket clutch.

This is not good. A clutch adjustment might correct the problem.

same thing. I had a clutch adjustment when I had a new tranny. It feels 10X better. Stiffer too and bites differently.

update: Actually its all gears. I thought it was first and last only because you usually shift into those 2 only after a stop.
Anymore ideas?

do you mean when the car is moving? Or just idling at a stop?

idling at a stop. e.g at stop sign, traffic light.
I got stuck in the middle of a street a couple of times cause I couldn't get in reverse.

It shifts fine right after I start the car but if i drive the car and then stop, I won't be able to get it into gear easily again.

I frequently cannot get my car into reverse first thing after turning it on when it is colder than 70 degrees outside. One solution that I found is that I shift into 1st and then back to reverse... guess it lines something up just right, because it works every time!

I would change your fluids in the transmission and differential to synthetic.

Also, it's pretty common for it to be difficult to shift into 1st and R when the transmission is cold. Keep in mind the transmission warms up much slower than the engine because it only heats up due to friction.

60-70 degrees F is actually quite cold for a transmission whose operating temperature is actually MUCH HIGHER than that when the car has warmed up. (probably at least 170-180 F)

even after the car has warmed up the problem persists.
