I had the same problem.. Fixed it by adjusting the clutch engagement point.. Because I drift occasionally, my flywheel goes through lots of heat cycles and in result, it warps in time. So, after a while even if I press the clutch in, it does not fully disengage.

adjusting the engagement point didn't do anything though...

That's why I suggested swapping transmission (and while you're at it, differential) fluids

What could be wrong? The clutch line has been bled.
Possible issue with your release bearing?

The car still has a 6 year warranty on it... swapping the transmission sorta seems abit too much?

edit: fixed

I think you missed the word FLUIDS.

And I also think you said "warranty" instead of "transmission"

Difficult to shift into gear. Clutch not releasing completely or input shaft tight or binding in flywheel or defective clutch plate assembly IF clutch engages middle or above halfway. Does the z have syncros on reverse? Is it only the first time you put it in gear? Try -Car stationary, trany in gear, gears stop spinning. Now, with clutch still depressed, change gears, does the trany engage correctly now?

clutch engages at the very top.
For the little experiment, if I manage to get in gear smoothly, it will stay that way as long as i don't release the clutch pedal. The moment i let it out and try to get in gear again, It becomes difficult to get in gear.

Update: I found something very disturbing tonight.
On a level surface the car actually MOVED FORWARDS when I put(with alot of effort) it in 1st gear with the clutch depressed and BACKWARDS when I put it in reverse also.

Note that it only moves when I feel the resistance of putting it into gear, It's like I'm pushing the car with the shifter ??

clutch is still engaged. at the exact moment when you shift into gear, even with the pedal full depressed, the car will move according to the gear since the clutch is still engaged. take it back to z garage and have them fix it asap... you will wear out synchros in no time with this problem.

I hate to bring back an old thread, but I'm having the same issues on my car now. Its a 2006 with an aftermarket clutch and flywheel. JWT (installed august 2011). I had my clutch pedal adjusted about 4 months ago. It only started happening recently.
My car has been at the dealership for over 2 weeks getting repairs (hit a cinder block on the hway...) It wasn't like this before. Only once in a while.
I will be taking it back to the nissan dealership to try to solve this problem. It is exactly as Cloud described it in the posts above. It will NOT go into first unless I really push it in.
Any experience with this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Regul8or
