Default 30k Maintenance

Just came back from the stealership and was told I am due for the 30K service. I have a MT 2003 Z. How hard is it to do the following?

Replace differential oil (limited-slip, conventional)
Replace engine coolant/flush system
Replace engine coolant
Replace manual transmission oil

Can I do all of these in my driveway? Does anyone have any links on how to do these? I used the search button and had no luck.

Thanks for all the help.

If you are skinny you can just crawl underneath the rear end and follow the change the oil thread located somewhere here. Make sure the car is level and you will do fine.

Replace engine coolant/flush system
Replace engine coolant
Kind of the same question. After doing some reasearch on this I have the opinion that if you do it every 30k there is absolutley no need to flush. What I would recommend is to drain it and fill it back up with premixed from the store. Do it about 3 or 4 times in one week and most of it will be changed. Good for you for realizing that you don't leave it in there for 10 years and then have to power flush all the crap out of there if your cooling system survives that long.

Replace manual transmission oil

Do you have jack stands and are confident that you know the correct places to use them? Then yes on that too. You will be doing the same work you did on the rear end but the car must be up in the air to get under it. Be careful.

Can I do all of these in my driveway? Does anyone have any links on how to do these? I used the search button and had no luck.

If you just don't feel like doing these, just doing these 3 are the most important and should not be quite as steep as the typical delear recommended mile long list. Just decide if you feel safe doing them and you could save some money plus you will know your car better. Always a good thing.
Thanks for all the help.

Way too much. According to the Maintenance guild I got from Nissan, the basic 30k is around $469. That includes:

Lubercate all locks and hinges

Replace diff. oil

Drain and replace engine coolant

Replace radiator cap

Replace wipers

Inspect running lights

Remove battery cables and install anti-corrosion pads

Install fuel treatment

Balance 4 tires.

Does anyone have the list for the 60K service? I am about due for that and would love to avoid the stealership if possible.

Plus to add to the complications I am supercharged...

Thanks!

At 60k they have a very cheap basic minimum service that's under $100 but it doesn't do crap except inspections. You'll end up getting charged extra for the things they find that needs attention. Here is the service that they actually do something to your car:
  • Luricate all locks and hinges
  • Auto. Tranny service - Drain and fill
  • Replace diff. oil
  • Drain and replace engine coolant
  • Replace radiator cap
  • Replace wiper blades
  • Inspect all running lights
  • Remove batt. cables clean and install anti-corrosion pads. Reseal terminals
  • Install premium fuel treatment
  • Balance 4 tires

All this for an economical price of $469.95.

So I should basically just look into getting all my fluids changed:

Tranny
Differential
Coolant

I may just buy the fluids and take it to a local mechanic since I dont have anywhere to dump fluids and I would rather not transport them in my Z.

What about things like the fuel filter, etc?

JUST NOTICED... the radiator cap... they really replace that? How do you know if it needs to be replaced? I've had my nismo rad cap for 40K+ miles....

+1 on the fluid dumping. I found out Jiffy Lube takes coolant for free and it's 1 mile from the house but it still sat in the garage for 3 months. At least I didn't have to find the municipal waste department on a Saturday though - and try and go to the other side of town with the junk.

We don't have a fuel filter.

Thanks for triggering my memory though. I need to check on small stuff that can be forgotten. Like do cars still have PCV valves? I don't remember seeing one.

Also, every 2 to 3 years replace your brake fluid if you plan on keeping your car 5-10 years!

No fuel filter.. .good to know. I think I will try and do those fluids in addition to brake and power steering all together...

Any good/recommended differential/tranny fluid or coolant to use?
