stupid gas gauge blows

Getting gas in the tank is another problem.

For the past few weeks I have driven 50+ miles with my DTE gauge showing ---- Then when I fill up I can usually put more in than normal and my gas needle goes a little past 3/4 full.... which is a lot better for me.... my light used to come on at like 250 miles... but now it comes on at like 310 or something... maybe driving way past the light helps reset it or something, or maybe the car knows how much gas you put in and thinks thats all that is in the tank... ?
All I know is Ive done this on my last 3 tanks and went from putting in 14.9 to 15.2 to 15.6 gallons each time... because the light goes off a little later each time now.....
either that or its all in my head... but a month ago I was filling up with like 12 gallons.

It seems that the system does not really know how much gas is left and sometimes sends you an 'educated guess'
All my gauges are in KM, which should be a little bit more sensitive (the smaller the measure unit, the most sensitive the readings should become) and the light usually goes on at 50KM to empty... but then it might show that I suddenly went to 30KM to empty and then back up (the light even goes out sometimes
)
Anyway, as some other guys here I just learned to calculate consumption and I try not to pay attention to the fuel meter.
