Default stupid gas gauge blows

3 months after I performed a repair on the gas tank to fix my incorrect gauge (did the shutter valve). the problem is now back. to add fuel to the fire, the car started starving at the track with 5/8 tank left remaining. Just what the f is the problem with the fuel pickup and reading? Anyone knows what's going on. The dealer is of course saying I am on crack, now I have to prove to them I drove 125 miles with the fuel light on...

have a video camera recording the entire time?

maybe that would help your cause if they think you're nuts.

Gas guage in my car fluctuates a whole lot. Was driving last night said I had about an 1/8th of a tank, drive for 5 minutes and it drops to E light comes on. then comes back up a little bit. DTE Guage went from 71 miles to 41 in about a 2 mile span. **** pisses me off when I dont think I have to fill up, then 2 minutes later car is panting for a freakin drink.

I JUST TURNED MINE IN WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM, IT SAYS IM OUT OF GAS AT HALF A TANK...GAUGE FLASHES...NEEDLE DROPS...10 MINUTES LATER IT POPS BACK UP TO HALF A TANK N EVERYTHINGS NORMAL. DEALERSHIP SAID ITS A COMMON PROBLEM ARISING AND IS REMOVING MY GAS TANK TO FIX SOME SOLENOID, CARS STILL UNDER WARRANTY SO NO BENJAMINS FROM MY POCKET.

one last fix, they replaced the shutter valve again and replaced the two sending unit. I wonder if that will fix it, i dont think they drop the tank. Also if i am correct, the fuel sending unit is behind the passenger seat isnt it?

I had this problem as well. After they replaced the shutter valve they pinced the hose that reads the fuel. My car would stop reading once it got half way.

I could never fill up my tank so they ended up replacing the tank and fuel pump as well as the shutter valve. The problem your having though is related to them pinching a valve that reads. That's what they told me after I ran out of gas and had to get the car towed there.

My car never ran out of gas, the gauge was just reading inaccurately. it seems to work after a week, but let see how long this will last.

Im past my warranty and this is pissing me off too.

Last night my light came on and the DTE guage said like 65 miles.... so I drive to dinner, a movie, and back, and in that time it goes down to 18 miles then back up the 40 miles just before I fill up. I fill up and it only take about 12.5 gallons (20 gallon tank right?) Then when I drive out of the gas station the needle only shows HALF A TANK!! Then when I get home it goes up the 3/4 tank on the gauge. This is so frustrating. Its still showing about 3/4 of a tank today so I am going to drive to a gas station and see if it will take anymore gas.

My theory is that when the light is on and it says empty and is flashing there is either really no gas but for some reason the tank WONT FILL UP properly or that there is consistently 1/4+ a tank of gas in my car even with the light on.

my car does the same. I think there's still 1/4 tank of gas in mine, even when the light is on.

If I had the *****, I would get a gas can and just drive until my car runs out of gas and see how many miles I can get on a tank/ how many gallons the tank will take when REALLY empty. Then I would know if there is something wrong with the tank or the gauge.

My gas light started coming on WAY early too.

When I first got the car, it would come on when I had about 4 gallons left. (filled up with 16)

Now it's coming on when I have 5.5 gallons left.

Annoying for sure

They replaced the fuel senders and shutter valve, it seems to have fixed hte problem. I am curious to see if the sender is the problem as I dont think the shutter valve does anything. Although I did fuel starve the car at the track with 9 gallons used. It's weird, just remove the fuel pump and replace the two parts i mentioned. I think it is only a two hour job, so give it a shot.

I am having this problem now ever since I took it in for the fuel hose recall. Very annoying to get in my car and it is past E with the light on then to see it move to a little less than a quarter tank to back to E with my light back on. Past warranty now so I am wondering how much I am going to have to come out of pocket.

There has been some different issues with the tank and meter readings in different years. I hope all have read the upteen threads on this issue and on how the gauge, light, dte computer and actual reserve relate when working properly. Too many people don't know how the system is supposed to work so they can figure out what part isn't working per its design.

Getting gas in the tank is another problem.

For me, the car was getting enough gas. The gauge was just reading incorrectly. My gas mileage gauge works too, it's usually iwthin 1 mpg of what I get.
