Someone's had their tranny replaced twice now (yup, that means he's had three total!). From what I've heard, Nissan's been pretty good about replacing trannies like that.
My husband's 2000 Camaro Z28 had to have it's tranny replaced once when he first got it. It's just something that happens to some cars, but it really sucks when that car is yours. Hope they take good care of you!

I started experiencing 3rg gear grind at around 4000 miles (not a problem before that mark).
I think to avoid another problem with the tranny, I'm going to wait a little bit when they come out with a more robust flywheel, clutch, etc. I don't trust the dealerships with repairs. (they already have scratched my paint and dented my hood!

My second transmission is failing as well. Steve Kaufman (Raceboy) has had two trannies, a new clutch/flywheel, and driveshaft, IIRC. Not to mention several others that have had similar problems. I don't know that we can say one way or the other if this is a design problem or a build issue. We have very little real data, just a lot posts here and there about individuals having problems with this gear or that. Nissan seemed to think that the clevis pin was to blame, but that didn't solve the problem in my case.
I also wonder if the throw out bearing sound that many are complaining about is related to the tranny problems. My car has made the sound at varying degrees of loudness since I got my car.

We have gone through 3 rebuilds on our race car. Each race we have replaced the 3/4 syncos, 3rd main gear twice, and the 5/6 shift fork. We have just received Nissans new updated 3/4 syncros from Japan.
Unfortuneatly we will not be using them this time ...instead we have my street car gearbox in there becuase the parts did get here in time ................![Frown](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif)
We installed new 3/4 syncros last rebuild and actaully put a ton of time on it. It felt notchy but we put about 8 hours of track time on it at Homestead and about another 7 hours of track time at Mid Ohio on the gearbox. We opened up the tranny to find the 3/4 syncro was just about completely gone.
Nissan is working very hard on this issue and the 5/6 shift fork. We are able to put alot of race time/ life time wear on a gearbox in a short amount on actual time.

I just got a new one last week, the dealer didn't even take it for a test drive. They know its a problem, they should order one for you, but this will blow your mind, there are so many being used, that they are on back order, so it will about 2-3 weeks before they can get one for you.

This whole thing wouldn't be so bad if they would just admit fault.....if they have to recall, then so be it......but i'm tired of getting fed horsesh*t.......the Clevis Pin thing that they're claiming is the culprit, is an outright lie.....if my Clevis Pin was the wrong length, i would grind every gear, not just third....i hear my synchros dying a little bit every day......it's a simple lubrication problem....but they won't admit that....better to say that a little pin is bad, then the whole frickin tranny

I am not a tranny expert but .....what I was shown looked like a couple of differnt things. The syncro when it starts to wear down doesnt lock onto the main gear..........
We def. had better luck with Mobil 1 race gear oil than Valvoline synthetic tranny oil.........
5/6 shift fork looks like a lubrication issue.
This is just our observations on our gearbox that we have been running.
