Default Trunk issues

Hello, just bought an 03' le mans sunset and I'm having some trouble with the trunk. Sometimes it doesn't open even though I press the little button by the license plate. Any ideas on how to fix it?, I'm probably going to end up back in the dealer if I can't fix it.

Does it pop the trunk up and just hang or does it not do anything at all?

Open the hatch, you should see a black "****" on either side of the hatch door. These are the springs that pop the hatch. Pull / rock side to side to remove the plastic cover and expose the spring on each side. Place 1 or 2 pennies inside each cover cover and replace.

Or you can take it to your local dealer and get hosed for new hatch springs and install for $340.00ish.

Replacing it will cure it for about 1 year and back to hanging.

It's common problem.

Do what Kolbalt said.

Hit button twice usually works too...LOL. Once to pop, then hold to release.

No need to get hosed by the dealer!

I think what I said was misunderstood lol. the problem is not by the hatch door. when I use the key to open the trunk, it doesnt open until I press the button by the license plate a couple of times. is this whats suppose to happen?

Do you hear the solenoid turning on and trying to open it? Or do you hear nothing, and every few pushes, it will finally open?

The key will not open the trunk with the engine on. Not sure if you can even have your key in the ignition.

It should work if the engine is off. Same procedure. On the remote, click once to pop it and hold the button to release (or click and lift). I've gotten so good at it I can do it all with one hand.

I do hear it trying to open, and it doesnt seem to fully open by itself, I always need to lift it up myself while I hold the button by the plate. weird lol. I had a g35 coupe before and it would open the trunk by itself. is it because this is an 03'? thanks for all the input though, great forum here

As posted before, the problem is the "popping springs" that pop the hatch up to clear the latch. The springs are in a small accordion-like housing. Remove the housing, pull out the springs, and drop 2-3 pennies in the bottom of the housing. Replace the springs, reinstall, and those few pennies will give you slightly more length where the springs will allow the hatch to clear the latch.

If you search for "penny trick" on this board, you will find a much more detailed explanation...It's a common problem
