Default Gas Tank Leak???

In the last 2 weeks when I fuel the car up gas leaks from under the wheel well by the tank. Im almost sure its not the rubber o-ring on the fuel assembly. Gas smell is pretty bad in the car too. Anyone ever drop the gas tank before. How long a job is this? Im thinking its the only way to see where the leak is coming from.

Also it started around the same time I had rear tires installed at Discount Tire. Is it possible they jacked up the car in the wrong spot and damaged the tank?

Did you have the gas filler tube recall done by Nissan? They may fix the leak while taking care of the recall.

Yes I did. I was wondering though, if I took it to Nissan to dignose the problem to at least pinpoint it. Think it would work?

If you had the recall done recently, say, 5,000 miles, then I would assume that Nissan will fix the leak for free. The warranty for all repairs is on the back of your job order.

If Nissan has to drop the tank to find the leak, then they may as well fix it while the tank is out of the car.

I think when putting back the fuel assembly I accidentally put a hole on the top of the tank. I noticed 2 screws were missing that fit on top of the assembly so I used 2 other screws that were slightly longer. Only one of them went through and I used some sealant and covered the hole. Now it doesn't leak anymore so I assume that was the problem. One thing that was weird to me was I only had about 7 or 8 gallons in the car but the tank looked full. Where does the rest of the gas go? Is my fuel lever reader off?
