I have the Motordyne 5/16" plenum spacer and tried to run it with the OEM strut bar, but there's no clearance between the strut bar and plenum, causing the whole car to vibrate when accelerate. I thought the Motordyne unit was designed to work with the OEM strut bar? I took off the engine cover, but the plenum is still touching the strut. Is the OEM strut bar compatible? Do I have to go with a aftermarket strut that's made to go in front of the plenum?

 

I sure hope not. I just placed an order for the same thing. From what I've heard before, you might be able to play with the adjustments on the strut bar to give yourself some clearance. Good luck!

I have mine installed with no problems. I know that there is a spacer that goes under the strut bar to give it clearance from the plenum.

Did you do the install yourself or did an auto shop install the spacer?

 

I guess that's what I get for buying used, there's no spacers for the strut bar included with mine. Time to go get something from Home Depot I guess.

 

If you have a ace hardware there, then get a 5/16th spacer for your strut bar.

For the time being just remove the strut bar for now.

 

you will need 2 to 3 spacers for each screw. Not the biggest deal, might cost you $3 for all them.

 

That sucks. You need the strut mounting spacers. Screw the home depot sht. Call Motordyne and just get theirs. The guy seems to be really cool. I'm sure he'll accomodate you. They're aluminum and really light.

 

Few members get into trouble with similar installs because the try to force things to fit. An example is stripping the bolts that attach the strut brace to the body. You should be able the thread the bolts by hand.


The height of the brace has some play. Loosen the locking nut. Turn the other nut to increase-decrease tension. The brace will move up and down. Tighten locking nut.

+1 on playing with the adjustments on the strut bar. That's what it was done with mine and it works perfect.
