Default Just cant get the spoiler to stay...

i have a OEM lip spoiler, and i dont want to install it by means of drilling holes into my trunk. I keep using adhesive tape, which works fine for a day (i use clear so it cant be seen) but then it starts to pop up due to the awkward shape of the spoiler. (the part closest to the Z sign fits fine, but the back side facing the rear-windshield gives me the most problems)

What kind of adhesive tape do you use, if you have used any at all? Any ideas?

Use 3M heavy duty Double sided tape. Its a gray tape covered in red plastic. Most hardware stores should carry them. Once on, they will never come off. i hope your not using double sided scotch tape!!!

Did you prep the surface with rubbing alcohol before you put the tape on?

make sure the surface of the hatch is very clean before doing this. I used 3 rolls of 3M tape doing the entire outside rim and 2-3 layers in the middle so it reached the car. Mine has been on for a year or so, after the first stick... sounds like you need more tape.

I have used the heavy duty 3m double sided, i generally layer the the border of the spoiler, however if it get's to close to the edge it can be seen, and looks rather unappealing.

Do you guys cut the tape at all? I dont see how lining the middle would help since it doesn't actually touch the hatch.

I have prepped the trunk to make it clean, but still no go.
Do your spoilers pop up at all in any location, or are they firmly situated around the entire edge of the spoiler?

The clear tape i used was 3m also, but not as strong as an adhesive, 2lb opposed to 5lb strength wise. It's just that the grey tape, if not placed properly is so easily seen.....

If you are using an OEM spoiler and the correct tape, you will have zero issues. Sounds to me like you're not using the right tape.

tripple layer the middle of the spoiler and the tape will reach the car. That is the purpose of putting it on there, for extra support. The spoiler itself doesn't reach the hatch, but the tape will once you push down on the spoiler.

I'm having the same dam problem. I have installed it twice already. and the middle part facing the rear window pops up. The rear of the spoiler sticks like a champ but the other side pops up. You guys reccomend using more then 1 coat of the tape, what other ideas? I already broke off the Bolt parts for the spoiler as drilling holes in my freshly painted ride is out of the question.

Have you tried using the 3M Adhesion Promoter along with the tape? It really makes the tape stick better. I just installed a spoiler last weekend and I had to keep redoing the tape because the adhesion promoter kept grabbing the tape with the slighest contact. I didn't do the tape alone though. I also bolted mine on. I wasn't about to trust a CF spoiler to tape alone.
If you want to try the Adhesion Promoter, I could mail you a couple of packets. I bought a whole box and only used two packets for my spoiler. PM me and I'll send you some.
