It happened to me once also. I managed to reach over the strut brace and reach the manual pull. Not easy. I have small hands too.

I had a trunk problem couple months back, but mine was that I couldn't get the trunk to close. You are going to have to try to get to the manual release somehow ...

Time to train your circus monkey to get to that manual release.

Good luck

LMAO, when i first got my car i shut the keys back there and i have the 2 10's under the strut bar box also. It was probably month 3 of owning the Z and i didn't know about the rear hatch pop. Not the same situation, but still stuck like chuck. It was a ***** pushing that box back to the other side to crush my arm trying to make the bend to get my keys. Boy did i feel like a tard once i found the button by the liscense plate.... lol

The hatch release will be difficult, get the box somewhat out of the way and take it from there.

I have a harness bar, so there's no way I'm getting to it.

if that doesnt work, i think circus monkey is your best bet.

The area where the actuator to open the hatch is fairly spacious. I wonder if you could go in by taking the bumper off? You may be to reach the rod inside to open it up.

I had a similar problem. Only mine was that it couldn't close it. Took everything apart, and realized it was the actuator to blame. It would torque when I push the button, but would go back to the lock position. I took the actuator apart to see what was up. On one of the plastic gears, a tooth was broken. So i pretty much just pulled the broken tooth out, put it back together, and now everything works fine.

But at least I could get to it easily... hope you can get it

I have a 2003 350z and I can't get my trunk to stay closed. It looks like the latch is broken and Nissan wants $115 for a new one. I can't find the manual pull I've heard about?!?! Does anyone know where I could get this part for cheap??? Thanks!

Couldn't help but laugh when I clicked on this sub-forum. The screen that came up said this:
