Default Why is my battery dead?

so i just went out to my car a few minutes ago to find that the battery is dead. it looks to be at like 11 volts right now. the engine turns over a few times and then i hear a rapid clicking noise, would this be indicitive of a dead battery (i havent killed the battery on my z yet)? no i didnt leave a light or anything else on. yes i tried to manually press the clutch button. i wont have a chance to jump it until my roommate gets off from work. it also had a hard time starting up once last week, where it cranked over a half a dozen times before starting. im wondering if this is an alternator or what havent noticed anything with the batteries voltage before. thanks

you probably have dry cells in your battery. Once a cell goes bad on the battery the battery will not hold a charge. The clicking sound you are referring to is a dead battery. The jumper cables might have provided enough power to start your car, but i doubt the battery will hold a charge over night and will be dead in the morning. One of the cheapest replacements you'll do on the Z, get a new battery, dont stress everything else in the car out by having a near dead battery.

Battery's are like electronics, you get a bad one once in a while. If your car's is under warranty take it to the dealership. The wife's battery on a new car went after just 2 months, they give her a new one no questions asked.

I am having the exact same prob this morning, my car just clicked very rapidly and all lights came on, but it would not even attempt to turn over at all. I was running late for work so didn't have a chance to jump it either, so i do not have that much of an update, but if anyone could shed some more light onto whether or not that type of description could be something other than the batter let me know, thanks

I will try jumping it when i get home this evening though and provide an update as well

I wouldn't bother overanalyzing a simple problem. Batteries that don't hold a charge that somewhat new just need to be replaced. Go grab a battery with the same pole alignment and cold cranking amps and call it a day.

I have one. I usually use it for my lawn equipment though. The battery in my Z is 3 1/2 years old and still going strong... probably will replace it with a lightweight battery within the next year....

I have the exact same one like in the pic.

To the OP.... You should check your battery terminals. My friends 350z had the exact same problem. All he did was clean the terminal and called it a day. Now dont let the clean look on the outside of the terminal fool you. My friend had to disconnect all the way and clean the inside ring of the terminal.

make sure you don't put it on the floor in the garage. It'll drain all the juices out. This one i got is over two years old and still holding the original charge.

I need some help here, not my weekend for sure! My buddy's G I'm using as a DD needed a new battery, went to go get one, tested it, worked fine went back out maybe an hour later it wouldnt turn over or anything! Upon further inspection I think the fuse connected to the battery may be blown, would that prevent the car from turning over? Thanks for your comments!
