Hi guys, I just purchased a 06 with 8500 miles on it, It has a borla true dual exhaust and an AEM cold air kit already on it when I purchased the car. A day after I drove it off the lot the service engine soon light came on. I took it in and the replaced the gas cap. a day later the light came on again, girlfriend took it in they checked and reset it, but told her it could be because of the exhaust or intake but were not much more specific with her. I read on here where someone said that it could be an exhaust leak, I have crawled under and did not find any leaks. Do you guys have any suggestions on a fix? thanks.

 

May be O2 housing is loose or dirty. Take it out and clean it, and plug it back in.

Go to autozone and get the code checked.

 

+1 no way you can pin point the problem without pulling the code and identifing what section of your car is acting up. Could be your H pipe on that exhaust cracked, it could your brake pads. Many of us have been running mods like those, and many others that haven't thrown the CIL dont listen to the dealer, they ride the short bus.

bad 02 sensors and or bad MAF sensor will trigger CEL. The parts don't come cheap. Once confirmed with a code reader. DIY. Good luck.

So I guess it must be something with the aftermarket cats, I crawled under and checked some of the joint bolts for looseness but not all of them yet, did not hear any exhaust leaks. But I did not get a chance to check them all yet.

 

it has to be a leak or cracked pipes? i could be wrong..

 

Blown gaskets maybe?

 

there is a way to check the code by yourself without needing any special tool..

1. confirm that the accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds

2. Repeat the following two procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds
a. fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD)
b. Fully release the accelerator pedal

3. wait 7 seconds, depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking ( your service engine light)

4. FULLY release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)

5. it than will start blinking and you count the number of blinks like for ex. you had ph420 i believe, it will blink 4x pause blink 2x pause than blink a fast 10 count which is 0, if you only have one code popping up it will repeat itself if you have more than one it will list the other ones as well until it repeats itself again, you can find out the service codes usually online they have a list for all of them..

btw if you mess up on the sequence on the pedal or not waiting long enough or waiting to long you can restart by turning the ignition switch off and doing it again.. It might take you a couple tries cause you have to be exact on the counting..

silverbullet_Z, thanks very much for that list. I recently tore up all 4 wires on the passenger side O2 sensor and I noticed the SES light (most likely relevant to one another, but I saw the two problems on two different days).

Couple of days ago, I stripped the ends of the torn wires, twisted it together, and taped it up for now. However, I think I still get the SES light. So, I'm not sure if I fixed it or not, or maybe it just needs the error code cleared and it'll stay away.

Ok, does anybody know how to fix "P0057 O2 Sensor Heather"? I rewired everything, but that's the only code that remains. How do I get rid of it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

I have a similar problem.
I have just bought an 04 enthusiast (happy to be an owner now BTW) and had the factory radio replaced yesterday to attach my Zune.
The temp display on the trip computer does not give a reading now and says ICY below it and the service engine soon light came on 3 mins later.

every time i start the car it reverts to the temp gauge looking for a temp instead of the MPH i left it on.

Do you think i should go to autozone and get it checked and then go to the installer with proof?

Also, if the service engine soon light doesnt mean change the oil how will it let me know?
the dealership said they changed it but, can the car tell me otherwise?

pull out the dipstick it should be really clean and by clean i mean it will be a very light color.. If its dark than the oil never got changed and you need to talk to them...

 

have you tried disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes to reset the computer?? other than that you could have a fualty o2 sensor..

 

I have not done that, but I did reset the SES light. It came back after driving it a few minutes.

I hit something on the road, which damaged my front bumper and several other things. One of the damaged parts were the rear passenger side O2 sensor (where it attaches to the cat). The wires were cut in half. I rewired them, but it still throws that code. I'm guessing the **** that I hit on the highway not only cut the wires, but also damaged the sensor.

Does anybody know the difference between the 03-04 O2 sensors and the 04.5+ O2 sensors? Are they interchangeable?

 

just call up your local nissan dealership and ask if they are interchangeable....
