3rd Gear is Gone.....
HeyaZ,
Last night on the way home, 3rd gear decides to go on vacation!
At the time, not doing aything of interest shifted into 3rd gear, no problem start to accelerate and I see the RPMS run up without any resistance and before I know it, it "popped out" of gear.
Never seen that before, but I figured I just somehow lazy shifted and tried it again, with the same response.
I'm assuming we're talking about bearing/synchro's here right?
Anyone been through this before this is my first....
Let me know,
Joe

yeah, if it slips, then pops out of gear you have a bad synchro. You can probably have it realigned, but it will happen again. Temp fix to prolong your transmission replacement. Sorry to hear mang.
It's OK, you have five other gears you can drive in.
My guess is that it only pops when you ease off on the accelerator in third to where it would be rev-matched to go into 4th. If you drive with your hand on the shifter it will probably stay in gear until you shift, but that will eventually bug the heck out of you. Hopefully it is still under warranty.

I think you are right about when/why it pops out, obviously after the first couple occurences of this, I haven't been back to 3rd gear which is a bit of an issue on uphill onramps with someone behind me and I'm crawling....
Fortunately with the boost I can get more than enough momentum to make things look right otherwise... Although for obvious reasons, 3rd gear WAS my favorite gear....
Right now I am still under warranty and I am hoping the guys at Performance Nissan will take care of it for me.
I am also going to take advantage of the "down" or "up in the air" time and go forward with a new clutch, I have a "clutch thread" going on somewhere else ( https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....04#post4456504 ) if someone wants to help me out there.
Thanks!

It is not a bad sychro. 3rd gear is actually brazed to it's hub.
Z's with a lot of horsepower actually break this brazed connection.
I remember reading about this happening to some memeber here. I think there was some discussion about an aftermarket fix to this problem being necessary.
Perhaps someone can point you to the tread or forum member that has experiences this problem.
