recall under way
Hi Everyone:
I have some very good news. I have a friend who is a service manager at Sears. They are currently awaiting 80 new potenza front tires. He has been informed from a source at Nissan that a recall is under way to replace the two front tires and bushings. I was told that the bushings(races) in the wheel bearings will be replaced. There will probably be a learning curve to correctly install these new bushings. The question to ask is why bushings?
Could the arms be the wrong size as was earlier summized? If so the bushings will have to be carefully offset to compensate.
Comments welcome

Why would Sears be authorized to replace Nissan suspension bushings? I could see the Bridgestone angle if it was a tire issue causing the whole thing, but I can't see Nissan wanting Sears to do their suspension work.
I may be wrong, but this smells...funny.

Here's some interesting info I found out from two dealers. Neither of them had the capability to replace the Z's front tires. I asked what they did to perform the "TSB" (swapping front tires)? They said they took it to Tire Kingdom to have the swap performed. The dealer was subing out this work. Not only can't the other dealer change the Z's tires, but claims they couldn't do the alignment per the TSB! Their equipment was broken and had been waiting replacement equipment for 2 months???? Kinda disturbing but may explain Sears being mentioned.

Thats the same problem with my dealer. They sub out their tire and alignment work to other shops. I still dont know what they are going to do for me about my cupping problem (at 11k miles, im well passed feathered). The service manager said there was nothing he could do. I spoke with the general manager and he said he'd call Nissan and see what we can get, but i havent heard anything from him in a while.

It's none of my business but have you considered calling Nissan yourself? When I called the woman barely let me finish stating the problem before she interjected with "You want new tires right?". Less than 48 hours later they approved the new tires. It seems like Nissan is well aware of the problems with this car and is ready to stand by their warranty, at least the first time around. If I had waited for my dealer to do something I'd have taken my RE040 sand paddles and entered my Z in a mud bog event by now.

If nothing comes of it, I'll call Nissan myself. Thanks again for the tip.-DrCold
My dealer (and not the one I purchased the car from) gave me a new set of tires and an alignment with no questions asked. You may want to mention that the tires are very loud while braking, and that there is a TSB out on it. They should replace your tires, if not call Nissan....
