One way to know for sure if it's the end links would be to take them off the car and see if it still makes the noise.

Some say you could move the sway bar by hand with the car in the air and replicate the clunk, but I have never been able to do it. I'm on my second set of end links now, and when these go I'll be upgrading to the SPL's.

Any ideas?
A couple of months ago I replaced one of my Z's axle assembly. Reason being "unusual axial looseness". And damn, it's an expensive component even at Trade price. Look it up in the workshop manual or refer to the technical site we don't mention here.

Mine was making those sort of noises you're describing in those sort of situations and uneven surfaces. Basically the outer pops out further than it should. Just an idea.

Just to keep you guys informed, I'm going to be purchasing the Powergrid endlinks. I hope that I get them by Saturday so I can get them on. If not, I will post the following Saturday. Hope this fixes my clunk!

Of course. And I put the order through to Adam @ Z1, but he said I won't get them until next week, so I'm hoping to get them installed not this Saturday, but next Saturday instead (12/22).

I'll keep you guys posted.

Good luck!
Thanks! I was able to dig that up yesterday and read it. New development since last I looked into this...

The powergrid install instructions seemed kinda vague to me though. From what I gathered reading that post and others, you basically want to start by taking out the pre-load the stock end links have on the bar. This will give them maximum articulation and reduce the chance for binding. What's not clear is what length they should be; how do you know you have the bar in the right position to set the length for the endlinks?

Anyway, Glad they worked for you!

you need to adjust them to stock length, and then having the car cornerbalanced to adjust preload accordingly

News to me...I always thought you needed adj. coilovers to cornerbalance a car.

I have the full Hotchkis kit so the car is lowered...I thought this meant the stock endlinks are already binding the sways, so way keep them at that length.

Thanks for the help...still learning all this suspension stuff.

Oh, and also if I'm just going to put them in at stock length, do I still need to have the car resting on it's wheels when I install?

swaybar preload can only be done with scales - doing it any other way is guessing.

the sways and links can be installed loosely with the car in the air, but should not be torqued till the car is back on the ground. Simple measure the center to center distance of the endlink holes and transfer that to the new endlinks

I can tell you from past experience that the 04.5 and earlier end links are smaller than the beefier stock units they sell as a replacement at Nissan now. This shows even Nissan knows the old end links suck.

Another first. I didn't know it was even possible to reach them when the car was on the ground...especially the fronts.

With the sways installed they rotate in their brackets, which changes the distance, no?
