So I go to put my car away for storage lift up the hood to disconnect the battery and a wire that is bolted to the engine is chewed up really really probably by some animal. What is this wire to and how much will it cost estimate to replace? Please any help thanks

I can't really make it out but it is probably a ground wire. Make sure you fix it before running the car.

Those pics just plain suk----If its black and a single 10-12 Ga then its a ground. If it is in a shielded cluster, I have to see a clear close up. If its a Ground, no big deal and repair it mainly for cosmetics.

Take your cover off and do a complete inspection of other possible wire probs----Mice dont just chew on Ground wires.

Do something about the rodents----Bait poison, moth ***** etc

Yea sorry I know those pics suck a$$ all i had at the moment. Hopefully this will help a little better. The wire that is mounted to the engine circled in yellow is the chewed up wire. I have had problem before with chewed up sensor wires so I believe there is some kind rodent. If anybody could please explain to me what this wire is to and how much it will cost to repair or maybe a easy fix idea. Thanks

Well ---you really didnt answer my questions but if it is about 3/16 Dia. O.D. and is Black it is a Ground and just a simple basic repair is sufficient

I believe so I really dont know the gauge on it just a little bigger then your normal speaker wire. Is it a simple as a splicing it and adding new wire? But I would like to have a definite answer as to what that wire is?

Either way ----Just repair it. Solder it if you like and use shrink tubing. Disconnect the Battery just to cover your butt.

If I offer advice from a 1000 miles away and it pertains to someones car, I like to be sure ---If it is Black and is not covered with a wrap, as the clusters next to it, then it is a ground and if the wire strands are intact, can be repaired by wrapping at the least and cutting, soldering and shrink tubed at the most. No big deal and does not pose a hazard

Yea it is not covered with a a wrap. I will probably have to cut out a section since it is chewed up pretty badly. The ground wire 3/16 or was that just a estimate? I really have no idea on wire gauge sizes.

I used 3/16ths of an inch to simpify things for you. It's a 12 Ga. I would guess. Its a ground, you can cut it and add another end and ground it elsewhere on the motor if you want. Grounds are important, but its just a Ground. There is no Positive Current
