Default Rattle in the rear

I have a annoying rattle coming from the rear of my car. Now it sounds like its in the inside of the car. I have taken it to nissan and let them mess around with it for 2 days. They think that i need to replace my trunk door (or hatchback door or whatever) to fix it. I really dont want to have to do that. It sounds like it is coming from the inside. I have taken some of the plastic stuff thats clipped on and my spare tire etc out of my car and it still does it! Any advice? BTW nissan did lift my car up and look under it and they did tighten something. But didnt fix anything

Thanks

I have a sound eminating from my hatch area as well...kinda like a "tinking" noise. Only happens when in motion. I have tried holding the third brake light, tightening the spare tire, readjusting the styrofoam back there but nothing works yet. I have less than 300 miles on mine....been there since day one. I will get the dealer to look at it some time.

I have same rear ticking sound problem.
Dealer technician could not find where the sound is comming from.
My car replaced whole rear hatch cover, but did not fix.
My guess is something is loose (clip) inside the rear body.
Can people post when your car was built?

DB Performance built 02/03
5000 miles

I just started hearing a noise coming from the back, too. I think it could be a piece of the suspension that has loosened, I hear a thunk taking hard right turns. I read somewhere about another Z that had a similar problem/noise, turned out the shocks were loose. I'm taking the car in next week to have them retorque the bolts of the rear suspension and check the shocks where they attach at the top of the wheel wells.

ticking noise (kinda metalic sound) is coming from inside the rear hatch.
when weather is cold (usually in the morning), the noise is not present. but ticking noise comes back when warm.
You can hear the noise even at low speed (20miles) where the road is slighly bouncing and smooth so road noise is quite.
It's very annoying sounds
Anyone who knows the fix, please post it!
Thanks,

Wow, mine is exactly the same, never heard it until the weather warmed up. I thought it was just my imagination...

Default Mine was from a loose exhaust hanger bracket...

...so said the dealer. It was tightened, noise disappeared.

Thanks,
I too have the same exact problem...except it sounds like my ticking noise sounds like it is coming from the driver's side rear wheel well. It didn't start until the weather got warm....when it is still cool in the morning it doesn't happen.

I thought I was getting too picking with things not right with the car.... I had the grease on the window problem but got that fix and a problem with the wipers making a banging noise when they were in motion.

All,

I'm taking my car back to dealer next week for front bumper paint scratch fix.
Meanwhile, I'll ask the technician once more to find the ticking sound problem. He heard the sound before (like month ago), but this time it was in the morning and could not hear it!
Seems like it's common problem with other 350Z, so I can reference this forum page and hopefully speed up the process and fix it.
Keep posting and take your cars to dealer for check out.
We all can benefit while looking for fix in parallel.

ezee,

The thunking noise you describe is EXACTLY what I have, and it occurs EXACTLY when your does (going around a turn or just as I turn into the driveway). My noise is quite intermittant, however. Sometimes I'll hear it three days in a row. Then it'll be a week before I hear it again. Naturally, when I took it to the dealer they couldn't hear it. Then they wanted to charge me $15.00 because they could find the problem!

So, please tell me what your dealership does. I have a feeling we have identical problem area.

Default Noise

I have an old 1985 300ZX Turbo that had the same noise for this car it was the shock struts that hold the hatch up, they would rattle at the mounting hardware points at the body of the car.
I finally bought an aftermarket struts instead of Nissan and the noise went away. Check it out

My "thunk" was caused by something in one of the storage areas behind the seats. I removed everything from all 3 storage areas, the noise went away, something was sliding around during hard cornering. LOL, hope your 'thunk' can be fixed as easily.

Last weekend I removed all the interior trim, spare tire, jack, styrofoam, EVERYTHING from the hatch area to see if the noise would stop. Noise remained. Removed the right rear tail light, noise remained. Said screw it, let the dealer fix it.

Took the Z to the dealer Tuesday (without replacing the trim, spare tire, etc), took the service advisor for a short ride, he noticed it right away when we went over bumps in the road, then he climbed in the back (which has quite a bit more room without the spare, etc). He said it was definitely coming from the right rear wheel well, so I left the Z and they gave me a ride to work.

They called me just before I was leaving work, said it was fixed, so a friend rushed me to the dealer to pick it up just before they closed. Got the keys, no charge, warranty work. They even replaced the front Nissan badge with the new Z badge that I got from Courtesy Nissan, no charge (didn't replace the rear badge so I have a spare in case the front gets ripped off, and clear bra was undamaged).

Before I had driven off the lot, I heard the noise, still there!!! I would have left the Z and taken a taxi home, but the service dept was already closed.

Arrghh, this noise is evil, I'll have to take it back in next week, gotta get this fixed!!!
