I have an annoying plasticky rubbing noise when turning the steering wheel past a certain spot and its really annoying. I'm sure it's coming from inside the steering column but did not notice any apparent rubbing between the wheel and the column. Before I tear into the column to find the culprit did anyone had this happen and diagnosed / fixed the problem?
I have the same problem. I havn't lookind into it but I'm pretty sure it's coming the rubber that surrounds th shaft were it goes through the fire wall.
The sound is coming from right behind the turn signal stack area. It happens while driving or stationary, car on or off. Something has to be rubbing in that area.
I have something very similar to what you're describing. However in my case it sounds to me like the sound i'm hearing is coming more from the front suspension area. It seems to be more noticeable when turning the wheel while going down an incline.
I do have 19" rims and the car is lowered but I don't think it's rubbing.
If anyone found a fix to this noise I'm very interested to hear what it is.
I have the same problem. Weird thing is though, it only happens the first 2 or 3 times I turn the wheel when I first get in the car in the morning. Weird.
Most likely just cold fluid and a noisey rack a pinion. Harmless untill your power steering starts dropping out randomly. I wouldn't worry about it unless it is inusence.
Possible lubrication of the steering "column" (i.e. the structure that goes down
below, into the fire wall). If not, rubber bearings may be cracked/smashed.
IF NOT, see your nearest mechanic--NEVER the stealership! Good luck, bro'.
