Question High mileage and never any tire feather?

Who hasn't found any evidence of tire feathing after at least 10,000 miles on the odometer?

If you haven't had any tire feathering after at least 10,000 miles, please tell us if your car was ever aligned or any other relevant circumstances.

Thanks!

I'm trying to see if there is anyone without this problem (for sure) and why they don't have it. The more circumstantial info we can collect, the more likely we are to see some correlation.

Please take the time to participate in the poll!

I suggest you add a

3.) I Have Tire Feathering problems and have over 10K miles

4.) I Have Tire Feathering problems and have less than 10K miles

what I really want to know is... the people that DO have the problem... Is there a similar driving pattern or style... Do they all do 80 - 90 percent highway driving like myself who also has the feathering with 4800 miles...

Well, there seems to be a substantial number of people who have the feathering, regardless of driving style, etc. I'm mostly interested in finding someone who hasn't developed the problem and then figuring out why. Also, I can't edit the poll, anyway. You might want to start your own poll to answer those questions.

There is another thread similiar to this, but did not have a poll. I have a Redline Enthusiast, VIN: 4,2xx and have turned over 7,000 miles. The wear on my front tires is very even, and signs of feathering what-so-ever. I had asked for an alignment before I picked up the car, and with all the excitement forgot to ask if they really did it. oops, but so far so good. Hope the info helps.

I can take pictures if you'dl like.

Performance, 18" chrome wheels, stock Bridgestone RE40s with 19k+ miles. Vin#19## (the under Vin #2000 batch that tends to have significant issues including tranny). No feathering front or rear. No alignment. No balancing. No nothing done to the tires or wheels since drove off dealership lot.

Made a point not to bang curbs or otherwise whack alignment, especially with chromes. I understand the problem is due to excessive toe-in. I have perfect wear, front and rear. I downshift all the time which probably reduces brake wear but to what extent it affects tire wear I have no idea. At close to 20k mi, the rears need to be swapped out very soon and the fronts have probably another 5,000 mi to 7,500 mi remaining.

12,000 miles and no feathering or other problems with the tires. I have not had allignment checked since purchase.

I did recently convert to Bridgestone SO3s. I probably will have the car alligned soon. Will post if I do.

I have a Touring 6-speed, still with stock wheels and tires. It has never been aligned -- still driving on the factory alignment. Only work I've had done to it so far was the AEM CAI I installed myself, the grounding kit I installed myself, and a few oil changes at the local Grease Monkey.

I'm at about 11,800 miles right now. No sign of feathering.

Most of my miles (as in 95%) are highway miles. I corner hard whenever I get a chance, but don't do a lot of city driving.

Default VIN#s

I would like to see people post their VIN#s, for those who do NOT have any cupping problems and have more than 10,000 miles on thier cars.

I have a friend who is approaching 6,000 miles and he picked up his car about 4 months ago.
