Unhappy Car died

Driving home today on the interstate, I was cruising around 70mph and I noticed the tach started acting strange. It was jumping anywhere from 2-5,000 RPM. The engine was not fluctuating, but the tach was. A few seconds later, the engine died. I got it off the side of the road (luckily it just happened to be the exit I needed). I looked under the hood, everything seemed okay.

I started it back up fine, but once I got into third gear (approx 20 mph), the car started bucking and then shut down. It then took me quite a while to work my way off the ramp and into the gas station at the exit. The car would randomly shut off or run rough. The lights on the dash were the SES, SLIP, and TCS.

Once I got it to the gas station, it would idle and rev just fine. I was hesitant on driving it anymore (just the SES light was on at this time).

After fighting with the Nissan dealership and the Roadside Assistance, I was told that towing was not covered even though I am under warranty and the manual clearly states that towing is covered for any part still under warranty (car has 21,000 miles). They said that roadside assistance is separate from the standard warranty. Why the hell is it listed in the warranty booklet then? Bastards. I'm going to give Nissan Consumer Affairs a call tomorrow and see what the deal is.

Anyways, the nearest dealer was about 5 miles from the gas station. My gfs parents showed up and followed me to the dealer. Amazingly, the car drove fine. I was able to get it up to 45 mph with no apparent problems. The SES remained lit, but the car drove fine.

Now, I'm just waiting for them to get back to me hopefully within the next day or so.

This sucks.

Didn't you just buy this new a year and a bit back? It's pretty new regardless as it's a 2006. Keep us posted on the reason(s) for this. Sorry about the bad news to start the week...

Yea, I've had it for almost exactly two years. And to top it off, its finally a nice day here in PA.

After doing some reading, I'm not sure if the car is in limp mode or not. For a while, the car would barely even turn on, but I could rev it up past 5k once it did start.

For the inquiring minds, the only mod is a JWT Popcharger, but it has been on for about 20,000 miles.

no smoke and your temperature was steady than it is an air related issue. Probably something simeple but as we all know those are the hardest to find. Good luck with things.

^ thanks.

Well, around 4:30PM I decided instead of paying $70 (standard fee for problems caused by non-warranty parts) + whatever they fix, I decided to buy a can of MAF cleaner and fix it myself.

So, after putting the OEM filter back on, cleaning the MAF, and resetting the ecu, everything is now running great.

I guess the OEM filter is better than the JWT for the 06's anyways. I just miss the nice sound after 4k rmps.

The car is alive and well

Yea, I'm pretty sure it was due to over-oiling the Popcharger (re-oiled a few months ago).

I'm glad it was only a $6.88 fix.

...good news. Glad everything worked out well, and for less than $10 at that!

Yea, now I am debating on whether to go back with the JWT (using a high pressure spray to ensure all excess oil is dried/removed) or buying a drop-in K&N for the OEM.

I'm sure performance wise, the K&N/OEM combo would likely be the best, but I really miss that JWT sound

Thoughts??

IMO lose the JWT, just not worth it and go with stock OEM for get the K&N.
