Default Tach / Rev Counter goes on strike at times

I've had the car a little of a month now, its a 5AT with abou5 45K miles on it. The first time this problem occured I was sitting in a parking lot waiting for my friend to come out of the restaurant, the car was on idling most the time then I turned it off, then a few min later she came out and I started the car and the rev counter was just sitting at about 1300 RPM, not moving at all. I stopped the car, put it in park, tried revving, nothing... I turned the car off and back on, still nothing... so I just started driving and it started working again.

Today I was out driving around doing errands, driving kinda hard, lots of WOT but the tach just sat at around 1200 RPM for a bit, then started working again moments later when driving.

I've also had other issues, once I burned some rubber and did a 180 degree turn and then it wouldnt shift out of 1st gear. I switched to auto and back to manual but it wouldnt get out of 1st gear. I had to turn the car off and back on to get it to work properly.

Anyone have any idea what the problem may be here? Its rather annoying when your rev counter just goes on strike.

I'm thinking bad wiring. I dont think it would be the sensor cause you would get a lot of other problems from a bad crank sensor.

Its probably something wrong with the actual tach.

you still under warranty? no mods right?

if its yes/yes

dealership will cover it.

But I'm not sure...if warranty will cover that. Dont quote me on it.

But doesn't sound like anything major if your car still runs fine.

Does it always happen in the daytime? Does the sun happen to be shining on it? Mine does this sometimes, only with sun shining on it. I put my hand over it to block the sun, and it starts working again.

Are you a ZR? If so, blah get over it.. Drive in the other direction.

I was tempted to try tinting it and see if that works.

Yeah i'm thinking wiring or computer malfunction or something... it does it at night too, and the sun wasn't shining on it.

Yeah I have a ZR... Why would the sun shining on the tach do that? Makes no sense...
