Default Do you hear a "clunk" when backing up?

It's an odd sound, when I back up with the wheels turned at all, it makes this odd "clunk" sound one time and only after a few feet.

Nothing seems loose on the car, at least as far as I can tell without jacking up the car and doing some real looking. I wasn't too worried about it, but it seems to be getting louder so I thought I'd see if anyone else has experienced it.

Thanks!

Did you fix it yourself? Or did you take it to the dealer? I am experiencing the same clicking thing. Thanks in advance.

I'm going to take mine in. If it is a loose axle bolt, it's not something I really want to keep that way... or worse.. become even more loose. FWIW mine started as a click, but has become louder to more of a clunk. I can even feel a vibration in my car floorboard when it happens. I'm right at 3200 miles.

Thanks for the input on this by the way.

There is a tech or TSB for this. Your dealer should take care of it. They did mine plus a number of other TSB's.

subscribing- same problem here

when i get my car back from the audio guys i want to take it in, can someone plz link to the TSB

to me it sounds like the brake pad is loose inside the caliper. Mine happens also when im cruising slowly towards a red light then brake with a bit of steering lock. Does sound like it could be axle nuts

damn, this is why I love this forum. I just started noticing this happening to my car too. Will definitely take it into the dealership to get nuts tightened.

A TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin or instruction on how to repair something. Look at it as a addendum to the maintenance manual. The drive train(including rear axle) warranty is 50,000 miles or 5 years.

I have the clicking noise too. I have an 03 z with about 20k kms. I assume a TSB will be relevant to Autralian cars as well?

im thinking ill take the car in, replicate the sound and suggest checking the axle bolts as a remedy

Thanks TiPIACE. I just called my dealer and then Nissan Australia in Melbourne and they had no idea what I was talking about.

And the dealer refused to admit that he'd ever heard of the problem - even though I was there 3 weeks ago showing them the sound.

He said there was no recall to do with the 350z in Australia at all.

I had the same problem with mine (03' base) when I would put it in first or reverse and slowly move my car i would hear a popping noise I finally took it to the dealer, they informed me that their was a bulletin posted about this something that had to do with the rear axle, and having to grease that and a few other parts in the rear. IMO take it to the dealer before it gets worse....
