Default LSD done?

I have an 04 performance/6speed. Before last week I could always get both tires spinning easily...now it seems the lsd might be shot.. any ideas? It mainly does one leggers, and if I hit it right both will spin...but not like it did before...is this thing shot or do I just need to replace the fluid? The car has 27,000 miles on it.

you probably should not make a habit of spinning your tires. you are putting a lot of stress on your engine and drivetrain components, as well as putting wear on your tires, which are rather expensive for this car.

Yes, the viscous coupling will wear out with frequent abuse. You cannot change the fluid, but you can get a new viscous coupling from Nissan. It would be in your best interest if you get off on spinning your tires to get either a Quaife differential or Nismo/Tomei/KAAZ 1.5 way differential. The Quaife is a Helical LSD which makes it more friendly on the street but just as effective on track as the clutch types (Nismo/Tomei/KAAZ) which make clunking sounds during low speed turns.

if that were the case I woulda bought a FWD car.

Are there any diffs that work with my car? All the ones I see say they only work in previous non LSD cars.

That just means you have to buy the output shafts from a NON LSD equipped Z in addition to whichever diff you chose. I also have a 1997 240sx and the same applies to them as well. When I bought the Tomei 2-way I have it in now, I had to also buy the OEM NON LSD output shafts. Hope this helps.

Also, its for sale if you know anyone who may want it. Tons of upgrades!

And yes, that is an RB25DET shoehorned in there

It sounds like you would be happy with the Nismo diff... It comes with the output shafts, new bearings & seals, and the diff is adjustable.

Forgot to add... Yes your VDC will remain unaffected. If you are going to upgrade the diff and plan on staying NA, now would be the time to also upgrade the ring and pinion gears to 3.9 or 4.09 ratio.

it does not matter whether your car is fwd, 4wd, or rwd. spinning your tires is terrible for all of your drive train components. you are putting excessive wear on your clutch, tires, engine, everything! i am not calling you stupid or something though, i am just trying to inform you that what your doing is reducing the life span of your Z and will ultimately end up costing you a lot of money when you have to replace your clutch due to glazing or just wear (think $1000+). on top of that if you take your car in for warranty work and the tech sees this excessive wear, they will not cover any of the work because its considered abuse. i have even heard of dealers refusing to do warranty work because of excessively worn rear tires. im not going to lie though, spinning your tires is fun, but keep it to a minimum for your own sake.

going turbo with a goal of 600rwhp. Will that Nismo stand up to the abuse?(im going to put it through hell and I don't wanna waste money on something that will break also..i dont mind spending more money if its gonna do what I need it to do)

Well, im gonna go with a guess and say that doing a forged motor/big turbo is prolly gonna void the warranty long before me beating on it is going to.. I bought this car for the soul purpose of getting every last drop of performance out of it as I can. I know how bad it is for the car..but it wasn't designed to be a show car that can't be abused...Ive had the car for 2,500 miles and im on my second set of tires already. I got a twin disk to help with the clutch issue and ill be building it the right way as I did my RX7 with the vette motor. If I break something ill just upgrade it..

Sounds to me like you are building a straight line screamer. Maybe you'd be better off with a Tomei T-Trax Advance. They ship with 6 discs per side, but are upgradeable to 12 discs per side for extra lock up. Great thing about clutch type LSD's is that you can rebuild them by replacing all of the clutch plates =]

If you want overkill, this is the diff for you...
