NTB03006 Excessive Tire Roar
I now have 12,500 miles on my 350Z's tires and have noticed a rumble sound that appears to be coming from the tires. Most noticeable at around 25-35 miles per hour and when I hit the brakes at the lower speeds. I looked at the inner treads of the front wheels and there appears to be high and low spots forming. I took it into Nissan and they told me there was a Technical Service Bulletin concerning this issue
They ordered me two new tires free of charge. If any of you guys are experiencing this, Tell your dealer and quote this TSB.
NTB03006 -IF YOU CONFIRM: An applied vehicle shows the following symptoms when braking moderately: · excessive tire "roar" or "growl" noise, · mostly when braking at speeds below 30 mph. ACTIONS: · Verify the incident noise as described above. · Check Alignment. Adjust (if needed). · Rotate Front Tires from Side to Side - Dismounting Tires from Wheels
Bobg,
This is the same issue as the Tire Feathering / Cupping that is about 20 pages long note stickied to the top of the repair section... I advise you browse through it to see what you could be up against. Also be warned, you seem to have about a 50 percent chance of the dealer SCRATCHING THE CRAP out of your rims when they re-mount them.
Good Luck!

If they scratch them, they will replace them. They didn't have to give me new tires. They could have just followed the NTB.All the other Z drivers will have the same issue that preordered
oh, I definitely agree with you. It seems as though some dealers are better (and more up front and honest) than others. I wasn't trying to be a jerk, just giving pointing you to much more info on your problem you are experiencing.
I do have to say, MANY people notice this around 4K - 6K miles... you did good to not have the issue for this long!

I took my car in to get serviced at supposedly one of the best Nissan service departments in the Bay area. I have 7300 mile on the car, have not experienced any tire noise, but can see and feel some "feathering" on the inside edges of the front tires. I told the service writer that I was experiencing some noise (OK, so I told a white lie) and asked him to check for uneven wear. He said that there is no way for them to fix any feathering and it is to be expected on these cars. He said the only service bulletin concerning the front end has to do with pulling to the right.
Now that I know the TSB number for "Excessive Tire Roar," I'll go back and ask them again.

My feathering and roaring tires became obvious in March. My Dealer agreed to replace the 18" front tires and align the car. Well, it took FOUR months to get the tires and during the wait the "roar" got to be unbearable. But finally, got them last week after threatening to find another dealer if they didn't get them within one week. They got them 6 days after that. They farmed out the work and I did get one small 3/4" long scratch on one rim, but I was so happy to get the tires I didn't say anything. Hope you don't have to wait as long as I did.
