Jack it up and get under there. Its pretty straight forward. Everything is right there. If you have a basic metric tool set, you can knock it out in under a half hour. GL

ya, very easy to do...oil filter is right in front of you...

there is a plastic under carriage panel that you can remove if you want...i do, its takes about 12 small 12mm bolts to remove it..no biggy....you will see..

but it is possible to change the oil without removing that under carraige panel.

Ditto. Just performed my first oil change. Not a big deal at all. Once you get the cover off, it's all there.

I took off my under carriage panel and decided to not put it back on since it would be a pain to screw it back on. I know nothing is impossible, but I just don't see myself sticking my arm up in there to unscrew the bolt and filter. I never park my car under tall grass so it's not a problem with it not being there.

I believe it's 10mm.

I'd leave the guard there or you will wish you did one day.

Default oil change at dealership

I had my oil changed at the dealership friday and this morning I noticed that the panel underneth the car was hanging off on one side. The panel was not like this before the oil change it appears to be broken on one corner where it attaches to the front lip. I back into parking spaces so I know I did not do this on a curb. I have called the dealership but no response. Is this panel something that could be removed (is it needed)?

Thanks,
dmaygs

i love the oil filter placement of the Z. i can do it really quick without getting dirty at all. For those of you that are familiar with other cars and the weird placements of oil filters, you will know what i'm talking about.

I like the oil filter placement also. Makes it very easy to grip it with your bare hands and turn it. Had an integra before and I could never get a full grip on that thing. I recommend a cordless drill to take off all those screws for the guard/mat, makes it way faster.

The "bolt at the bottom" is commonly called the drain plug. Just so you know.

No, it is not hard to change the oil on a Z. As someone said, you will need a basic metric socket set. My car (HR) requires a 10mm nutdriver (a socket/ratchet combo will also work just fine), a smallish slotted screwdriver, and a 14mm socket on a short ratchet. That's it.
