It felt like an older car's transmission after having it for a few thousand miles. They replaced it, and blamed it on being low on fluid and themselves. They gave me a Z key fob and plate frame for the trouble.

My '08 6MT has 38K on it, and no issues AFAIK. I switched to Redline MT90 a few months back, and honestly can't feel any difference from the factory oil. Any gearbox is going to make some noise, though. For example, when I'm sitting at the drive-up window at the bank, it's easy to hear the gearbox because the sound reflects off the concrete wall. Push in the clutch, the noise goes away, because the gearbox stops spinning. So, my Z's "normal" in my experience, and I've had nothing but MT cars since I started driving in '74. Worst ever was my '88 E30 M3, with a gearbox that sounded like a shaken coffee can full of loose nuts and bolts. Best seem to be my Alfa Spider's, which are almost silent using 50W motor oil.

My 07 Nismo is making the same noise as Slyde talked about and it is defiantly the input shaft either being bent/bearings or both. When you push the clutch in the engine doesn't transfer any power through the tranny and when you let leave it in neutral and let the clutch out it makes hideous noises. I can see this being a more common problem since my car only has 20k and its been doing it since 11k and the car has not even been on the track yet

I have an 08 base that had a tranny whine especially on start up and the noise would go away when I depress my clutch. So I took it to the dealership and they said it was due to metal shavings found in the transmission fluid. The dealership ended up replacing the whole thing and now the whine is gone, but now I have a bad o2 sensor, and window motor(replaced by me). Everything seems to go wrong after 36,000 miles, crazy.

My 08 has 13k miles now and no "abnormal" noises like your stating but at least if it happens I should know the problem. Keep us updated!

^How long did the dealership take to replace the trans? How many miles on the new trans now?

I'm hesitated having the dealership working on car.

Keep us updated. Thanks.

I don't know exactly how long it actually took them, I do know that I dropped it before they opened and it was done around 2 or 3pm. The new tranny has around 1500-2000 miles on it now. It was replaced under the 5years/60,000 miles warranty. If you have less then 60kmiles and it's within 5years your dealership should place your transmission under warranty.

^Thank you.. My Z only has 11,000 miles, so I will drive it until the trans falls on the ground, and then get it replaced under 5yr/60,000 mile warranty

My trans was replaced a couple years ago for the gear whine. They said it was the inpuut shaft bearing. The new trans is more quiet, but the clutch chatter remains. I have learned to live with it. There is no adverse performance from the noise.

I had the same noise as in the video. Took it to the dealer, and got the same diagnosis as everyone else: input shaft bearing. Got the trans replaced, and now the whining noises are gone.

^Try another dealership if you want. Might be the same input shaft bearing issue as others are having. Some people had the trans replaced and still experiencing the same problem.
If it doesn't affect performance, then I'd live with it until before 5-yr/60,000 mile warranty expires. Good luck.

Bumping an old thread....

My 08 base (22,5XX miles) grinds from 3rd to 6th and 4th to 6th. I took it to the dealer and they duplicated the noise in 3rd and 4th to 6th. The guy says he can get me a new transmission on Nissan's dime as long as there isnt any aftermarket clutch/flywheel. Which to MY knowledge there isnt.

My question is, since I only have 23ish thousand miles on it, should I cash in my "warranty transmission" or should I wait till higher miles? Any input would be appreciated.

6th to 2nd drop at 80 you say?

Well, let's just hope this one lasts longer. Glad to hear my trans wasn't the youngest to die.
