I have a similar problem with my '03 Z. Upon hard acceleration from a stop there is a clunking noise. Also happens when turning left over rough pavement. It appeared several months after a 5mph front end impact with a small tree last February when I spun out on some snow here in the DC area. (I have snow tires now so that doesn't happen again)

After reading this forum, I replaced all 4 swaybar endlinks with OEM replacements but that didn't solve it. So I took my ride to a Nissan dealer and he said I had too much play in the steering rack and need a new rack and pinion assembly. $1500 with parts and labor. I said no thanks.

Went to a friend who's an auto guru, put the car up on ramps, and turned the steering wheel back and forth 20 degrees or so. We could hear a clicking sound coming from the steering rack. After going under the car and feeling the noise, he though it was an inner tie rod link so I had a shop replace the inner tie rod. $280 later (after parts, labor, and realignment), no luck, so I have to reconsider replacing the entire assembly.

Found the assembly at Advance Auto Parts for a lot cheaper and the same shop I used before will install it for ~$300. I'll have it done in a week or so and will update you on the result.

I've always heard that Z's have a axle clicking problem. I think you can take it to the dealership and they fix it for free. Might wanna double check. Also check and see if your shocks arent blown. They sound like a creaking noise when they are.

... i mean since you take so many hard left turns lol.

it was the test pipes hitting the frame when i made a hard left..and the clicking noise was from my 2-piece wheels ( Volk GT-F's) i didnt toque them down tight enough..i just had to torque them down a bit more

A quick update. I replaced the entire rack and pinion assembly and put in Redline power steering fluid. No luck. The clunking sound still occurs when turning left over rough pavement, cutting the steering wheel left quickly, or hard acceleration. My steering is smoother, though, so at least I got something out of it.

I also replaced all 4 swaybar endlinks (with OEM) with no improvement either.

My next step is to disassemble the front brakes/calipers and see if anything is loose. Then it's on to both steering knuckle assemblies and see if any seats are cracked.

Try checking your Diff...or if you have a 2 piece wheel check if everything is torqued down properly..i solved the clicking noise on my car when i took apart my volks GTf and torqued it down all over again
