Post here only if you have had your TRANNY replaced.

I suppose this notchiness is common/acceptable for the Z33 trans.

They will want to check the push rod or something first, change it out, and 75% of the time the need to replace the trans anyways.
This is how I started, but I was fortunate enough to go straight to "new trans". I've personally seen 2-3 go the route I just described.

It's just not a quite trans, and it's defintely precise.
UPDATE: I took it into the shop. They said they have ordered a new transmission assembly and a new clutch petal. They said that this is common and they've done this with a bunch of Z's and it usually takes care of the problem. I'm not sure if a 'transmission assembly' counts as a whole new transmission but thats what I'm geting.

I have also heard of them doing this, this should be a rebuilt transmission, which is "just as good" as it comes with the same warranty as getting a new trans.
However "assembly" does not directly equate to a rebuild, so you may want to ask for "clarification".

i figure the notchiness is normal for all trannys...on cold starts,, from first to second.
My problem is the noise.....at idle my car sits there and makes a clunk clunk clunk clunk....sound like it has a aftermarket flywheel or something.
it that grounds for a new tranny.

mine was replaced at 10 k, under warranty.
bg that is probably not your tranny causing that. maybe a camshaft thing or cats, but that isnt normal.
yes the notchiness is normal b/c the tranny assembly is heavy and big for such a small car.

Factory tranny gave out at 8K
I'm currently at 30K and replacing tranny #2

mcduck, sorry to hear about your tranny problems, and I bet you never drive your Z hard
Try pushing the clutch in when you change gears, the new one will last longer. All kidding aside, did Nissan cover your transmission under warranty when you have a super charger on your Z?

NEw to the site. O3 Touring tranny replaced at 17k miles...Habberstad Nissan Long Island.
Problem= Excessive gear whine at low RPMS, Rattling with clutch let out like something was gonna drop out the bottom of the car.. Occasional grind.

So far my replacement trans. from July 2003 has been fine [2nd - 3rd gear upshift grind]. 21,000 miles total and about 15, 000 on the trans.
Now I'm confident to change out the whale blubber gear oil for the RedLine I've had sitting ready to go out in the garage for over a year.

New tranny feels great. Definitely a different feel to the clutch than the prior trannies. Clutch lets out much higher and there's more of a snap as the clutch clamps down. You can really feel it grab when you power shift
I honestly thought of just adding the lightweight flywheel and leaving the stock clutch in.
Hard for you to ever knock Nissan when they covered your tranny when you have a SC on the engine. Most automakers would of told you to take a hike. Glad to see they are so nice.
