Post here only if you have had your TRANNY replaced.
My 3rd gear wouldn't engage fully and it would always grind. I swapped my sport shifter for my stocker and dropped it off at Nissan. Nissan put a new tranny in (under warranty) and replaced my clutch free of charge. How's that for a deal?

This is like one of those Ripley's things.
As the clutch is a wear & tear item, short of defects, they have no responsibility there, that was defintely a deal.
It was a dealer in Indiana -- Collin's Nissan. I couldn't believe it either -- all under warranty. My car had about 28000 miles when the 3rd gear grind started and they replaced tranny and clutch for $0.00 (as it said on the recipt). Yeah, it was probably the best day of my life.
I also had my clutch replaced free of charge when my transmission was replaced in my 03 touring at 17k miles. I was suprised as well considering it is a wear and tear item. This leads me to believe that there is a known problem with the clutches as well as trannys considering they "volunteered" the replacement.

I took mine to a dealer last summer about 2nd, and 6th being hard to shift. They told me it was normal, but I have times where I can't even get it to 6th. I end up having to put it in neutral, release the clutch, then shift it again before it will engage. Anyone else have this kind of problem?

2004 touring ed. bought last april has 12,453 miles on it and Carbone Nissan is awaiting authorization from nissan to replace my tranny which the tech told me it needs replacing. They had my car all day so I hope they not thinking of giving me any problems. They did order the rear end parts for the clicking issue with the outer rear axel joints and bearings. Just thought all day would be plenty of time to get "authorization" from nissan, especially since it is so widespread!!!
03 Touring 6MT with 23,900 miles on the clock.... 3rd gear is grinding pretty bad. Taking the car in on Monday... already talked to my service manager and he is fine with me upgrading to the JWT clutch/flywheel.
Dealer is going to be Peltier Nissan in Tyler, Tx.

Bought a 2003 Touring 6MT with 33,000miles on the clock. Less than 1 week later, heard bearing noise in nuetral with clutch pedal up and grinding when shifting into 3rd. Dropped off car at dealership and recieved a call that they'll be replacing my tranny and clutch assembly under warranty. This is at Burien Nissan.

Ordered Oct 21st 2002
Delivered Jan 19 2003
I only drive it April to October every year.
April 20 2005, got the call today that I'm waiting on an order for a brand new transmission and clutch assembly.
I brought it in last week for them to diagnose. I had the problem intermittently last year. But when I took it out this April I was able to reproduce the 3rd gear grind on command, so I knew the technician would be able to also.
My instructions were simple:
In 2nd gear, go past 5000rpm and shift to 3rd --> Grind!

I had grinds and *clanks* below 5000 rpms. If I made a quick shift from 4th to 5th, or a quick downshift from 5th to 4th, I would get a really loud crank.
phreezee, LOL

Thats the exact same thing I told my service dept. this morning! I drove, one shift, new trans and clutch on the way.
2003 Track, 15000 miles, pre-order

Well... I took my car to the dealership last week and they drove the car and confirmed my 3rd gear grind. They ordered my new 008 tranny. I ordered my JWT clutch and flywheel. Took my car to the dealership this morning at 11:45am... just got my car back with everything done at 6:00pm. They only charged me $65 for the JWT install. I'm verrry happy with the whole package.
I had my tranny replaced at 25,000 mi. The dealer covered the clutch disk and plate. They wanted me to pay for a new OEM flywheel at $1100. I said stick it, and called Nissan. After a few calls, Nissan covered all of the labor and I got the Nismo flywheel for under $300. Overall, very happy. This was at Universal Nissan, Universal City, CA. Bottom line don't accept the dealer's offer as final. Nissan customer service was very helpful and responsive.
I figure the longer you can go without having to replace your transmission the better Nissan will get at making/improving them. Just have to make sure if you have a problem you get it fixed before the old 5 year 60K driveline warranty expires.
