ok im now on my 3rd transmission and its lookin like ill be getting a 4th soon. I have 16k miles on my car and ive had this 3rd trans for less than 1000. Right now its grinding frequently going into gears which seems like a synchro problem which wasnt the case the first 2 times. The first two times i had my gears in the car totally blow out.

Went to the dealer for the squeeky clutch problem. They Lub'd the push rod and the noise went away, only to return a day later. Tranny seems to be fine! no grinding, although something feels wrong.

Usually shifting from first to second, it doesn't go in easy and there is a loud clunk. Third is fine.. I can only take it back and hope they'd actually fix something for once.

With all of the mod's that you have I can't believe they are doing this for free? You should be kissing Nissans butt Most manufactures would deny warranty the minute you did anything to increase the power of your engine and then had a transmission problem.

Well I have not posted here for awhile, and this is probably the same thread I posted on earlier, but will do a quick update. Bought a 03 sunsetlemans, performance. went through three transmissions in 10 months, first at approf 5 k, second about 15k, third about 20 k. . I sued Nissan and they updated me with a 04 touring for a $2400 cost. I have had no problems with the car and love it, thanks nissan

My problem was clutch bearings. I checked in Toronto and I didn't find any Zs with tranny problems, they told me it's in the US models only... thats wierd, arn't they both made in Japan?

I also heard that tranny oil GL-5 is bad for the Z's tranny, GL-4 is whats suppose to be used. Is there a chance that the US models have GL-5 by mistake?

WAAAHHHH

I have an 04 Enthus. Tranny replaced at 7000 miles 6th grinding (dealer also noted that 5th was grinding). Now the SECOND transmission is grinding in 5th and 6th at 15k miles!!

This is frustrating the hell out of me

Personally, I think this will keep me from ever buying a Nissan again.

a 30k car shouldnt have these problems... if I had known I would be going on my third tranny I would have just gottena used Corvette! Nissans were supposed to be reliable!

I regret buying my wifes Murano now, and I pray she doesnt have the problems I am having... her alignment keeps going off though and she has 6000 miles.

I am starting to really miss my Accord.. not much fun to drive, but people didnt LAUGH at me because of my grinding tranny (yes its happened).

Well, I am sitting at 66k miles which is NICELY out of warrently with another lemon transmission, 5th gear keeps griding, I have had 2 transmission swaps already and the problem keeps coming back.

My tires are feathering (always had this problem) there is severe feathering on the inside of the front tires, the rear tires are doing fine. Personally I am sick of dealing with Nissan, my experience with most rude dealerships add to the stress of driving an unreliable track model car.

First and Last Nissan.

Since we put less then 10K per year on the Z, I doubt we will keep it past the 5 year 60K mile powertrain warranty. By then we will want something that gets 100 mpg.

Hi folks...

6th gear is grinding on my 2004.5. Also having a problem with the OEM tires making more noise that a 4x4 with monster truck tires. Hopefully will have it to the dealer next week to check it out. Oh...grinding started at just over 9,800 miles.

My transmission works great at 16K miles and I hope the tires are straightened out. But when I get close to that 5 year 60K mile warranty expiring I'm trading the Z. Not worth replacing several transmissions. It seems that if someone has a bad transmission that when it is replaced the new one doesn't last either.

So if nothing is wrong with the tranny at 60k miles, then why worry? Seems to me you have good one. The guys that are getting multiple tranny swaps ar having probs at low miles.

Exactly..my first two transmissions lasted a total of 15K miles between both of them. The third has been great ever since, and I now have almost 40K miles. I'm not worried about the trans anymore at all.

Why worry? Because a tranny swap is 3500 bucks plus labor! Even if there is a slight chance it could come back, I dont want to have to pay 5000 something bucks, unless its to drop in a turbo. Whether or not my third transmission pans out well, I plan on selling at 60k miles.

Hopefully the Supra will be out by then...

A trans out of a wrecked Z probably costs under 1000....and a trans swap on a RWD car can be done in your garage with jackstands and simple hand tools in a couple hours.

If the trans fails AFTER 60K total miles on it then I would link that to wear or abuse...not a faulty transmission.
