I have a 04 and I bought it used and the first time I filled up it happened to me, I put ~15 gallons in and I was about a 1/8 from full and it still does it. I thought the Z has a 20 gal tank?

More like the Nissan hoses on the fuel system have known issues, something about ozone affecting the amount of gas you can really get in the tank. There are threads online here, with ideas to get a complete fillup and worse case you can always talk to the stealership.

cracks in your refueler hose causes the gas tank to build up pressure as you pump gas. If you fill up holding the pump wide open so the gas rushes out as fast as possible than this is probably affecting you.

Once you hit about 12gallons try easing off the pump and slow down the flow of gas. If you slow pump the last 5 gallons it will fill up. If you try to force it in there fast it will stop the pump around 12-14gallons with a slow crawl to full if possible after the tank pressurizes.

Mine does the same thing. Sometimes it will click off and be on the F above full and sometimes like 7/8th's. I just always keep it above 1/4 tank and I quit worrying about it.

Actually this is a known problem with the 03-05 models and the fuel tank sensors. Mine had the same issue and it drove me nuts for about 4 months until I took it to the dealer and it was fixed under warranty. Basically the fuel tank is a saddle bag design and when one of the sensors goes out the tank level will never read correctly - I don't think it has anything to do with the cold weather, but who knows.

I would check for an applicable service bulletin first: http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/Knowl...html?catid=253

I've noticed that after I fill her up...the gauge for "dte" ( distance to empty ) gauge reads on like 280'ish ??

It used to go to about 368-348 dte after a fill up.

I'm wondering if my fuel mixture is messed up... maybe running to rich ? I've noticed my exhaust really smelling bad. I might need a tune.

Anyone else have this issue ?

So this is a known issue? For a minute I thought I was nuts. Whenever I fill up on an empty tank, it ALWAYS takes about 10 gallons. I'm always at the gas station. Sometimes the gauge never shows full after a fill up, sometime it's all over the place.

So does this mean, when the gas light comes on, I have 150 miles left to get to the nearest gas station?

it means you should probably go to the dealership and get your fuel sending units diagnosed

I am bringing down my 07 to the dealership to have this issue looked at as well. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

I have the same issue... but Nissan said that they'd have to take the gas tank out and keep the car for a few days. its my only ride so that's not an option right now.

My gas gauge only goes up to 1/2, when it should be full. and it stays there until the tank is actually less than 1/2. That's when it the gauge starts going down. But i can only fit 15 gals in my tank. idk
