Default Update with LEMON LAW

Ok,

I have good news and some bad news.

Bad News: I still have the damn rattle and it may be getting worse and im out of the regular warranty

Good News: I sent them a Lemon Law letter and they jumped on my case right away. Since I was concerned about the suspension, they bumped up my suspension/Axle warranty to 100K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I told them i was running out of warranty and Nissan said its a new program they are trying out and are willing to go ahead and do that for me. They sent a official letter stating the extension of my warranty on those parts.

I would call that a WIN. It's better than nothing, but the noise is still there and hopefully it will break or something.

Keep up the good work and updates guys!

PS: Complain like hell if you are sill under Warranty and keep fighting!

good info, thanks.

I brought mine in again this morning to Great Neck Nissan. We'll see what they say this time. This might be the last time I go there if they can't figure it out.

update- they said they couldn't find anything wrong-big surprise.

Next step is to talk to Nissan. There MUST be a way to get it fixed.

You can add me to the list of noisy '07s since sadly mine started making the noise as well. The sounds reminds me of a broken upper strut mount or blow shock like others have mentioned. Mine is just like everyone elses and coming from the rear passenger side. Hopefully someone figures it out since Nissan apparently can't!

Well as temperatures lower and winter comes I'm guessing this thread will be popular again.

Ok well I think someone posted this already but here it is again ( https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance...ing-fixed.html )
, which I believe is my problem.

It is very odd that this only happens to the passenger side on everyones car. It has to be an assembly issue since the same gasket is used on both sides. I just hope it's not a design problem and will have to change it out every 2 years!

UPDATE:

Thanks again my350z.com for the great insight in helping me fix my problem. Well the noise did turn out to be the upper gasket and finally the annoying noise is gone. When I removed it the gasket looked to have absorbed water and dryed back up which deformed it. The gasket was no longer a perfect circle and was wavy.

It is beyond me why Nissan would use what looks like hydrophilic paper in an area which is bound to see water. Furthering the problem is the gasket is only a circle unlike all the other ones I have seen which cover the whole mount surface i.e. BMW's as shown.

There design is less prone to deformation since it is there is more surface area and it is thicker.

Anyways, I was not about to spend $20 (courtesynissan price) for a paper circle that is
going to just go out in another year, so I was bound to make my own. I wanted it to cover the surface and be made of something that doesn't absorb water. I ended up cutting one out of a blister package I had lieing around and it worked prefectly. If it doesn't last I might try the E46 gasket since they seem to be similar sizes, last longer and 40 times cheaper.

Add me to the list of the clunkers! I have a 2007 350z Base. My car has been getting progressively worse over the past month.

The worst part is, I have owned the car for just 2 months now and I just got my car back from getting a new transmission due to the 6th to 5th gear grinding. Now this... I just had a missed "check-up" call from Mark at North American Nissan. I guess I need to bring this to his attention.

Called Nissan USA today and they said a regional person will get back to me soon. Let's see what we can do.

I suggest everyone do as I did-call Nissan, get the problem on record, get a file number and refer them to this forum, too.

I brought my car in to the dealership where I bought my car. I drove the tech around and hit a few bumps so he can hear the noise. He heard it, I dropped the car off with him and as expected, I got a call back later in the day saying they tightened down my spare tire and the noise is gone. total Bull****. It is not the spare!

I picked up the car and of course the repair shop was closed so I couldn't complain to anyone, but the noise is still there. I will say that when it is cold out, the noise is more noticeable.
This is so frustrating!!!!!

Did you hear back from a regional rep yet?

I had my car in last week to have the clunk looked into. The tech drove my car and heard the clunk. He then took it into the shop to inspect the car and blamed it on my exhaust. (The only mod I have on my car!) He claimed to have "adjusted" the hangers and fixed the problem. I drove it home and the clunk was still there.

Nissan did a follow up call and I told them the problem was not fixed and the car goes back in tomorrow.

I talked with both Mark and Amanda from North American Nissan and explained that this is a common problem. She told me that they do not have any record of this being a problem.

I encourage everyone who is experiencing this problem to call her...

1-905-972-4168 Amanda

Leave a message if she doesn't answer!

Hopefully they will see its a problem.

I've got an 07 350z. 37k. The noise is getting worse, of course it gets bad right after I get out of warranty right?

Not sure if I'm having the same noise as you guys have, but mine is kinda a rattle noise from the trunk when I go over small bumps in the road. Sounds to be coming from either side of the car, changes depending which tire hits the bump.

I checked the spare, jack, all that nothing is loose.

Would you define it as a clunk or a rattle? Just curious if replacing the gasket would fix my issue.

Mine is a clunk. I say that because a rattle seems like that is a noise that happens more often and not caused by a bump. My dash has a rattle that I hear almost every cold morning until the car warms up.

The noise I hear in the back only happens when I go over a bump and it "clunks".

This is what I have as well on my 08. Mine is a clunk and a rattle. The rattle is more pronounced if the car is travelling over a very bumpy road where the suspension "bounces" I can hear it on both driver and passenger side althought it seems more pronounced on the passenger side. I thought it might be the hatch struts because when I hear the rattle it sounds like the hatch isn't closed all of the way even though it is.

When you open the hatch you can push the hatch lid all the way up and see how the struts seem "loose" where the hatch is connected to the the top of the struts. When I do this (pushing all of the way up) it appears to recreate the noise but i'm not 100% sure. I live in Florida so it's very noticeable in hot weather, I don't think cold is a factor in my issue.

I haven't taken it in to the dealer yet because of the run around I'm sure I'll receive but it's becoming unbearable so I'll be taking it in soon, multiple dealers if that's what it takes. It's unacceptable for a $30k+ car less than 2 years old to be making this noise

It's definitely becoming progressively worse. Oh, and nerdbebo, congrats on your very first post in 2 years

Thanks, I lurk quite a bit, read, but never had the need to post since the forums generally have all the info I need. Love it here. =)

You explained the rattle noise exactly. Let me know what your dealer finds out, mine has progressively gotten worse and today I noticed my hatch didn't stay open all the way. Maybe the struts are going out?

I think it's the ball studs that attach to the strut assembly. The passenger side is noticeably more loose, especially when you lift up on the hatch and push it all of the way up. If I shake it, it re-creates the same sound I hear going over bumps. That could explain why it's always more pronounced on the passenger side. I'm thinking they'll need to replace both the struts and the ball studs since you can't pull them apart once they're locked in place.

I hope this is the issue and not something in the suspension. I only hear it on hard bumps where the car bounces. If I go over a speed bump I don't hear it.

I did hear back and was told that a tech from the Tennessee Nissan plant was working on figuring it out....more to follow.

Everyone with this problem should call.

I just returned call to Justin at Nissan NY Regional
1-866-799-1690 x1688

Carlos –a master tech from Nissan- will come and look, go for a ride with me and try to duplicate the problem. I'll insist that I drive and take the guy on some bumpy roads, rather than the 1/2 mile of perfect pavement the dealership likes to take.

I'm waiting to hear back for a scheduled time....
