Good luck with this guys. I just traded in my clunky Z for a G and the annoyance of that clunk is no longer an issue for me.
I will keep watching this thread because I am very curious what the problem ends up being for most of those who still have the issue.

It's getting colder out and the problem is getting MORE annoying. This is driving me nuts.

Update: Below is not the issue, I have the same suspension issue as everyone else, parts on order in a different post further down this thread.

OK, my issue is definitely related to the hatch. If I open the hatch and drive over the same bumps on my street where I usually hear the noise...the noise is gone.

I still think it's the hatch struts and where the ball studs attach.

Haven't made it to the dealer yet, I haven't time during the day...hopefully over the holiday weekend I can get in. My interior rear view window is rattling now...it's driving me nuts...other than that it's solid car, the only other noises are to be expected from a car with tight suspension

I'm waiting to get a call back from Nissan re: my appointment tomorrow with a "master tech." I really hope he can fix it. If he says he can't hear it, I'm gonna be really pissed.

I'm also going to print out this thread and insist that he reads it, so PLEASE post on here if you are having this same problem (this is not a hatch issue, so please post on that topic in another thread. This is the suspension clunk thread).

Well, my symptoms mirror your symptoms. It makes this noise when the suspension bounces. To me it appears to be coming from the hatch strut although i'm not 100% sure. It could be possibly be suspension.

Since all of of us have similar symptoms there is no need for multiple threads. This is definitely an annoying issue to all of us affected, regardless of one root cause or multiple root causes.

I think we should all be helping each other, the more information we have the better chance at resolving this issue(s)

This is just as frustrating for me as it is you.

This problem is not related to the hatch struts. I eliminated that possibility by replacing mine with a stronger Nissan strut (which lets the hatch stay up in the winter, which is nice), but the noise remained unchanged.

Yesterday was another day spent at Great Neck Nissan. I left with the same noise, again. A master tech met me there and rode with me, heard the noise, and looked for what it might be. He said he couldn't find anything wrong, but tightened bolts, etc. and put some foam or something in some of the panels to deaden noise (which I wish he had not done, because I don't want to mask the noise, I want to FIX it).

SO, back to the same old thing, except he agreed to have the dealer order and install new strut gaskets, which I heard about on this thread. He said something odd about not seeing any on my car...kind of concerning....

But anyway, the next step is to have those put on later this week, hopefully.

Everyone from Nissan still refuses to look at this web site or acknolwedge that there are many of us with this problem.

You guys who've had this done: Has it worked? Has the noise returned? Please keep us posted.

Let's keep bugging Nissan about this.

Thanks.

Good luck, I guess i'm a few steps behind you then.

I'll try hatch struts first, if that doesn't work...i'm back to square one

Hey man, you need to call me. We should meet up and hear the noises our cars make. The gasket thing above the strut didn't work for me. But I can't even be certain my dealership ever did the repair - they could be just BSing me, I wouldn't put it past a Nissan dealer.

This week, I'm going to take apart that side of the suspension and strip the rear hatch down and will report on what we find.

Yeah, give me a call tonight please. I'll gladly come out and meet you somewhere. I am considering selling the car if I cannot fix this.

Same issue here, 04' w/ 75k miles. I'm running Tein mono flex coilovers so may be related to those but the sound as you guys describe it is almost the same.

hey all,

just got the car back from the dealer ... so far the sound has disappeared.. they had done some general tightening in the area and had also changed the rear stabilizer linkage, all under warranty still.

Ill let you know if it holds up.. hoping it does.

Still have it. Sorry I have not been on here in a while. I keep calling Nissan cs.

How about a class action lawsuit? I will start it if a bunch of you sign on.
