Default My mom backed her huge Yukon into my Z. What to do? :(

So my car was in the driveway, and the Yukon was in the garage. She was going out (to see George Bush come back home to Midland, TX) and didn't look back. She damaged my right fender, bumper, headlight and hood.

Now I have full coverage insurance with Farmers. They should be taking care of this. My question is, once we chose the shop to fix it, will they allow me to use whatever parts I want? Lets say I want a Nismo V2 bumper, will they pay for IT, or at least let me pay the difference between that bumper and the OEM?
Same goes for the hood.

Thanks guys. I'm so sad, I'm in Cisco CCNA class right now. And i'm not even paying attention cuz im so pissed/sad. Accidents happen though, so I'm not mad at my mom.

if you talk to your body shop maybe they can get you the part you want and bill your insurance company.

Your insurance company will send out someone who will estimate the damage repair costs at either your home or whatever shop you bring the car to. Once they make the property damage offer you can take it wherever you want to have whatever done you want....but the insurance company has pretty much said what they are willing to pay for the property damage.

If you want additional work, that will be out of pocket.

from my experience, try to get most money out of it when the insurance company do their estimates. Once you get the estimate you are free to use that money to buy things or go to a bodyshop to get OEM or aftermarket body parts. YOU WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO GET AFTERMARKET BODY PARTS IF YOU OWN THE CAR. If the title is still under the bank or anything other than your title/family/friend's title, you cannot get aftermarket body.

Insurance check was sent directly to my dad with his name on it, so I was able to buy an aftermarket bumper. I was told the check has to be written out to you personally in order to do this, unless you're in good with the body shop they send the check to.

This varies by state. samjcg may be correct with regard to Texas insurance practices. I'm in CA. When there is a lien holder, insurance companies send the check in both the registered owner and the shop doing the work (and often in the lien holder as a second signature).

If you own title, they send the check to you.

Every state has different laws in this regard.

I am in CA as well. I believe if there is lien holder, you still cannot get an aftermarket parts. The lien holder has to come sign off "the car" when the car is fixed to how it supposed to be.

OP, you can get aftermarket bodyparts if it is under your name.
have fun. dont be sad now. Its MODDING TIME

It's just a car. They'll pay for what it would cost to get it back the way it was. You'll pay the difference in cost for a different bumper. When you get home, just relax & wait for your mom to get home. Clip off one of her valve stems with a pair of dikes right as she get's out of her Yukon & walk off.

and those OEM parts are coming from junk yards, they are not going to be brand new, unless you own like a 2008 model

I also forgot to mention it was mainly because the damage was below $2k.
