Some of you are saying change your valve cover gaskets and some are saying change the actual valve covers. Which one is it? i would assume gaskets but what do i know?

valve cover gasket would cause oil to leak around your valve cover. Oil on your spark plugs would mean you have a bad valve cover since the holes inside the valve cover aren't sealing properly. Changing your valve cover gaskets will not effect your oil on the spark plugs.

Are they not just little O-rings pressed into a machined face on the underside of the valve cover? There must be something... it would be rediculous if they expected a metal-metal connection to seals. Try to find a pic of the underside of a valve cover, i'm going to do the same.

yes, there are o rings, but they are built into the valve covers. Some have used sillicone around them but it's a hit or miss doing it like that.

I do not believe they are seperate items if I'm not mistaken. It's all one assembly. Can someone confirm this?

I am pretty sure they are all one piece.

On a side note.. if I had just a small leak, can I get away with not replacing my valve cover gasket?

External oil leak? Ya your just going to have oil all over the place. Oil destroys electronics and rubber real fast, and your probly gonna get sick of checking it and something will get damaged. Change them before you have to change them and more ****.

I found the same issue on my car (#6 cylinder)... decided to pull the valve cover to have a look and took a few pics. The seals are in fact molded in the plastic and non removable.
