Last night I drove my car and it was fine. I go to leve for class and when I turn the key it cranks to 1500 for a second then dies. What could the problem be? Car has 42k on it and never had any problems.

Yes with it not connected the gauge reads fine. I also try to pump the gas when it hits 1500rpm like I could do in my old truck and catch the idle, but for some reason it still drops the same in this car. I don't know if its not getting fuel or what

The voltage can read OK, but the battery can not be able to provide enough current to get the car started. That's how mine was when it died last summer. If you have an 04, the battery is probably dead. They typically last about 5 years.

Last night and today it has been starting fine. From time to time it will not crank over but the 3rd or 4th time it will. Sometimes when it turns on my rpm gauge will freeze at 0 and not move, other times my headlights turn on auto when I never flipped them on... The service engine like it on but I don't feel like getting raped by a shop at the moment if I can fix it myself. My car is the base model

see if you can take it to autozone....they'll check it with a computer....at least you'll figure if it's something worth getting a shop to do...
you checked the MAF meter yet? give that a try...wouldn't hurt

MAF has nothing to do with what problem he is having.

Crank position sensor, imo.

If there is a CEL, get it read- may help diagnose the issue.

^^ I agree. Crank Position sensor will cause the car to act like this.

MAF will not cause a problem for the car starting, just not able to run smooth.

i already said it could be the sensors...i never said it was the MAF...it's never bad to check it...it's held on by two screws, better to check all the things you can before going to get raped at a shop or the dealer

TJGILROY this is the 2nd time youve tryed to "help" someone and didnt know wth you were talking about. Seriously you enthusiasm is great, but stop. If you dont know you can harm more then help.

You need to get the codes checked, cheapest way is probly autozone.
