Exclamation Color comming off leather!!!

I have a LS with orange interior and have the car since March of 2003 and have 15,000 on the car....I noticed over the past several months the leather on the drivers seat near the side bolster is wearing the color right off!!!WTF is this going to look like in 3 years??? I brought it to Nissan dealer and was told that the leather was only covered for 12,000 miles but I can not find that in my warranty book? Can anyone verify this?It seems Nissan dealers want to do absolutely no warranty work!!

Sounds like that part of the seat is prone to wear. People have posted about the cloth seats wearing in the drivers side bolster as well.

What is the difference between wear and defect? And where in the warranty book does it relieve them of liability for the leather at 12,000 miles on a 36,000 mile warranty?

This absolutely should be covered under the 3 year/36k mile warranty! Seats are NOT wear parts like brakes, tires, etc.!

It's a design issue because it's the part you rub against every time you get in the car.

My leather seats have no wear. Currently have 12,000 miles. Because I never touch the side bolsters when getting in and out of the car. Also I apply leather lotion often. If you have constant friction on fabric, leather your going to have wear. Sorry to hear about your seats.

If you feel that the dealership is giving you the run-around, you should contact Nissan (1.800.NISSAN1) and open a case with them. They have been very responsive to Z owners. Most importantly you should regularly apply some leather conditioner to your seats. Good luck.

Default frost leather wear

The color was wearing in the lumbar
region of my seat (lower back) and my dealership replaced the seat.

I remember reading a thread on an M3 board several years ago where someone's belt had discolored his light grey leather. I came away with the impression that if you had light colored leather in your car, you had to be extra careful. Was glad I had black at the time.

The local Katzkin dealer pointed out that Nissan does not dye the leather all the way through the material but rather only the surface. So, as a result this type of issue can be expected. The Katzkin leather is dyed all the way through. I ordered cloth seats and will have Katzkin add the leather upgrade. The cost is around $900 and so if you don't get any where with the dealer this is an alternative you may wish to consider.
