Default Oil Consumption Problem on a 2005?

Hi. I'm a new Z owner here and had a quick question about the oil consumption problems reported on some Zs. I purchased a 2005 with 23k miles and last night I was doing some fluid inspections. I've found the engine oil to be very low. The previous owner had told me that maintenance was done up-to-date, so I'm a bit concerned this vehicle might be burning oil. Anyone know if this is a known problem for the 2005s?

Also, I've done some searching and looks like some go for full synthetic, others for dino. I've done mobil1 on my other cars and wanted to migrate this car to it as well. No one has reported problems with full synthetic on the VQ35DE, right?

Is it an anniversary edition 2005? If so, it has the Revup motor and you need to go to a Nissan dealer to start an oil consumption test.

Also, see the Revup Oil Consumption sticky in the Engine and Drivetrain forum.

If it's not an anniversary edition, fill the oil and check it each morning. Document the decrease compared to the mileage. Get a rough idea how much the engine is consuming, then take it in to Nissan.

Synthetic or nonsynthetic, it shouldn't be eating oil. A little oil loss is normal. One quart per thousand miles is not.

From his signature it says he has the enthusiast model. Those engines did not have a known problem to be oil consumers.

Solidfish, I would not use Mobil1 with this car/engine. Mobil1's old formula was good, but the stuff that they've been putting out the last 2 or 3 years has been reformulated and tests have shown that it is not one of the better engine oils to use in the VQ engine series.

Its possible to burn oil in any car. Do a oil change. Check the oil level in 1,000 miles.

Wow, I never heard about this on Mobil1. I know they are still the factory trusted brand for many imports though. I'll start checking the oil consumption. I just read a few threads about the 2006 oil problems and was wondering if it was known for other years. I'm assuming I dont have a problem, but just trying to safe.

Thanks.

Mobil 1 is just fine. Just use a good filter along with the oil. And the most important thing is to change it on time.
