Angry Hollow plastic rattling noise coming from the rear!!

Anyone have this? It happens only ones in a while on rougher roads, and it is a distinct hollow plastic rattle coming from the rear. Any fix or comments will help, thanks!

I have the same problem. I think it's the plastic around the rear strut tower.

There are lots of rattles, and with my luck, I can never replicate them when I take it to the dealers!! Let me know if you find something on these rattles!!

Not for sure about your rattle, but found mine to be the plastic cover on the hatchback. The plastic retainers holding the hatchback panel had loosened up/lost their tension and were allowing the panel to rattle. You can verify this by opening the hatchback, pushing firmly around the entire perimeter of the panel to reseat the retainers, gently close the hatchback and go for a test ride. Chances are the rattle will be gone, BUT it'll come back as the panel again loosens up. Have your dealer replace all the plastic retainers.

I have been being driven crazy by a rattle seeming to come from the three center gauges. Finally figured out what the problem was today, but don't have a clue how to fix it. I have the Nav, and drive with the door open all the time so i can use the screen. It turns out it is the open door that is rattling on me. Close the door, no rattle. Try it. You can replicate the rattle by simply hitting your dashboard around the gauges in the center. Open= Rattle, closed=silence. Glad to have found the fix, but this isn't right... I miss my nav screen. any ideas?

This is an easy fix. I had the same problem that only got worse once I installed the stiffer Nismo suspension. The rattle is coming form the rear strut brace. there is s piece of plastic that "slaps" aginst the brace when you go over certain bumps.

I have the exact same rattles coming from the gauge cluster and the rear view mirror. The cluster sound doesn't go away when the door is up, as Moodie suggested (my Nav door is usually down). The rear view mirror squeak often comes when music w/ heavy bass is playing, and temporarily goes away if I give it a good upwards push.

Any solutions to these two problems would be of great help.

I had the same rattle, and I initially thought that it was coming from the rear view mirror. After trial and error, I finally corrected the problem. My rattle or "buzzing" noise which usually cmae apparent with loud music was coming from the passenger side vanity mirror. There is a small piece of metal that buzzes to certail vibrations. I fixed my rattle/buzz about 10,000 miles ago. I can provide pics if neccesary.

Pics would definitely help!

However, I am quite certain it is my mirror. When I push up on it, an audible "click" can be heard, and the buzzing stops (I even fiddled around quite a bit with the wire coming from the Homelink, which also seemed to be contributing).

But I'd like to try your solution as well!

Check the plastic boltscrew holding down your spare. They tend to loosen up with time.

I get a chirping noise coming from the back. Dealer looked at it and order some part. Once that comes in, I'll post more info.

Moodie, as far as the rattle from the front, I haven't heard it since they replace the cable. Gonna have to take it up Mt. Hamilton to see if that fixed the play in the steering. Also there was a TSB for rattling in the VDC button area.

I think Nissan did address the rattling in the later models... I don't hear any rattling in failsafe's car. His was deliver in Feb.

Guys, if you click on the "resources" button at the top of this page (under the logo) you will find all the TSB's. There is a TSB for fixing of some of the rattles and squeeks you mention.

Hope this helps.

As always
