Default Time for oil change?

Hey guys I just have a general question and I wanted to know the answer from all your experiences.

I have an 07 Z which I bought way back in May 2008. It was almost brand new with only 4k miles on it. The owner changed the oil at 1k and 4k miles. Now as Im typing this Im guessing i already know the answer but before the flames come I just want to know this, the car barely has even 5k miles. Yes I have different cars. Its been a while and people keep telling me "no your oil doesnt go bad just change it every 3k miles" Now obviously being at 5k miles it has 2k more miles to go but Its been a very long time between oil changes. Will the oil screw up my engine being in there for so long? Should I go ahead and change the oil now or should the oil still be ok for a few more miles? Thanks ahead for your help.

general rule of thumb, 3 months or 3000 miles, which ever comes first.

synthetics and driving style can effect change interval tho

I just changed mine last on 05/16/09. Before that it was 02/28/08. Yea that's right over a 14 months at 4,110 on the oil. I don't buy in to the whole 3000 mile or 3 months.
I send a oil sample to Blackstone each oil change. I also get the TBN done too. I run Castrol Syntec 5W/30. The Oil report is alway good that I get back.
I have a 06 RevUp by the way. And I never have to add any makeup oil.

it depends on what kind of oil is in the car or you are planning on using. It probably won't kill your car, but its probably a good idea to go ahead and change it anyway.

I've started using Rolyal Purple 5w-30 in all of my cars & trucks. It works great reduces engine temp, better oil pressure and you can run longer between oil changes. They say it gives you more HP? It helps out alittle on your mpg.

Change the oil every 5k miles if you're using a quality synthetic blend.

As far as a timetable if you stay under 5k... in my nonprofessional opinion, change it at the beginning of every driving season. Three months tops if you haven't driven the car is ridiculous.
