Default Rear wheel bearing

I noticed some noise on the way to work a couple days ago, then this morning on the way in I noticed it getting louder while turning right. I knew then that it was probably a wheel bearing but found it odd as i only have 12800 miles and that seemed way to early for a wheel bearing to be going bad. Anyway I got to work and pulled into the shop to check it out and my right rear wheel bearing is shot, definitely one of the worst I've ever seen. I work at a very busy shop and have years of experience (I'm an ASE certified tech/ service manager) so for me to say that means its pretty freakin bad. My question is has anyone else had problems with bearing longevity and are there any heavy duty replacements available? (yes I have searched did not find any) I do a lot of hard spirited driving but still feel like this bearing went a little too soon.

Hmm, that's weird. With my experience, any bearing from any auto parts store should last a while even if you drive hard. Did this rear tire ever hit anything hard?

12,800 miles is possible of course but unusual. I drive a 350Z with 69,000 miles. Never have replaced wheel bearings.

This happened to ME!!! at around 70,000miles

My rear right bearing went bad. Something was screwed up, because my axle nut was loose too. Caused the caliper to dig into the rotor, essentially melting a part of the caliper, rendering the caliper, rotor, pad, hub, bearing, etc. etc. useless.

$1300 when it was all said and done, including a used low mileage Brembo caliper off a G. (If I remember correctly, dealer wanted over $2k, I bought the parts and just paid them labor)

Check your bearings every once in a while.

If I decide to keep my car as a weekend/auto-x/track car. I might end up replacing all 4 at 100,000miles. It wasn't a good experience.

Wait, here's the kicker. My extended warranty had just ended a month or two prior.

Not even 13,000 miles and its out??? That's crazy. You didn't let anyone drive it and not go with them did you? Can't really see it just happening without something bumping into that wheel pretty hard.

Could of been a poorly made part that just got missed during quality check or something but who knows. As long as your dealer replaced it under warranty and anything else it may have damaged.

I agree, although its a rare occurrence you should probably stick to OE and have them change it under warranty.

Take it to the dealer, have them take care of it. Probably a weird defect, or some major jumping off the curb action.

Took it to the dealer the bearing and hub assembly were both replaced. I am really glad I brought it there though, I dropped it after hours and one of their technicians was just leaving I talked to him about what was going on and also told him about noise I am experiencing from my throw out bearing...... he took care of the wheel bearing and called me personally to tell me that they would replace the T/O bearing under warranty and offered to install my aftermarket clutch/flywheel no charge if I brought the parts in (i told the tech. I would slip $40 in the box) so now not only am I getting all my warranty repairs taken care of but I'm also saving myself time from having to install the clutch/flywheel myself. Life is beautiful...

That sucks, it's weird my axle nut had backed off like 5 threads as well. I noticed there is no castle nut (most cars are equipped with a castle nut on the axle or have a slot on the axle to bend a tab in to keep the nut from coming off or breaking loose) for the axle which can let the nut break free which I think caused premature bearing wear. I never let anyone drive my car only 2 people that I know of have driven it me and the guy that pulled it out of the showroom. Well three now the technician that works at the dealer had to test drive it. The worst part about it all is how fast the bearing went bad. I check the car over personally at every oil change 3k miles, bearings included. This went from perfectly fine to 2.5" of play in a matter of a 3-4 days.

i noticed a knocking/ticking sound from the back right wheel area when i turned left or made circles to the left. I jacked up my car and checked out the wheel. The Damn thing was had movement play of about a 1/2 inch!!! I was like WTF is going on here. So i thought my bearing was shot but eventually relized that the axle nut was only on finger tight and was slowly coming off!!!! Now i probably have premature wear on my bearings and may have to replace them soon. Now i just need to check all the axle nuts.
