Default 1st to 2nd shift always bad

whats up guys. this is my 3rd manual car and first z, a 2005 ppw enthus 6spd and i can NOT seem to figure out the damn 1-2 shift. its always notchy and just plain bad as far as smoothness goes and what not.

what helps with this? weighted shift ****? engine mounts? every other shift is fine but that damn 1-2 is always a killer.

You have a couple of choices. Work with what you got or get a rebuilt transmission.

my 06 1st to second shift is the same way. kind of annoying. and i missed second at the 1/4 mile track like 3 times the other day because of it causing me to grind second a few times.

what i do is when im going from 1st to 2nd... i dont pull it straight down to 2nd.. i move it slightly into neutral but not completely into neutral and then down to 2nd... it makes it a lot smoother... hope that makes sense

What i do is rev slowly to 3rpm in 1st, then quickly switch in to 2nd, that way the revs dont go down as fast and no jerk is occured.

cheapest option to try is getting your cluth fluid replaced, you would be amazed at what that could do. More than likely though your transmission will need new synchros. Good luck!

like kiriller said, shift sooner at like 2k or 2500 rpms and its a lot less noticeable. My friends evo is the same way and it urked the crap out of me. I started shifting sooner and it goes away. Either that or when you shift higher just make sure you keep your foot on the gas a bit too and that helps as well.

Either there is something wrong with your clutch or you just arent used to operating such a fine piece of machinery.

Mine's the same, even at low revs, has been like it since I got it, 03 Track. Does it about half the time. The R33 Skyline I had before it was the same.
It's only 1st into 2nd so that kinda rules out it being the clutch I guess. I also find its usually only an issue when the car is cold.
If I remember to do it, I find that when I go to shift, if I take it out of 1st but wait a split second before taking it down into 2nd, it's smooth.

I do the same thing, it helps a lot. In most cars 1st to 2nd gear change is difficult, it just takes practice. The Z is kinda harsh though...

yea the guys who replied earlier are getting the wrong idea, the sychros are fine and stuff. what i was referring too is how to play the touchiness of the clutch and throttle in these cars when going from 1st to 2nd. it doesnt grind ever, just a bit notchy and unforgiving. the car has zero transmission problems and has only 22k on it. car has not be beaten on at all, like brand new.

i think im due for a tranny fluid change but im gonna conclude that its just the natural way these cars shift, theyre very unforgiving.

yea it is a lil notchy from 1st - 2nd...but if it is grinding a lot especially at higher rpms, dont be afraid to admit somethings wrong and u should get it checked out...im the same way. its sucks but sometimes there is something wrong..if its not sychros- do the above mentioned.

Isn't that for when you have a dog box? No need on any stock vehicle. But the civic guys like to , even when there is no need or HP.

Just be smooth, its that simple. Most cars cannot be slam shifted without grinding , thats probably what your doing.
