Help/Problems Installing BBK/Bleeding Brakes
So Me/Friend undertook the task of installing an ap racing 4piston f/r BBK on my 03Z. I looked up SEVERAL how-to/tutorials on howto install/bleed the BBK.. Everything went somewhat smooth considering this is the first time we have ever installed brakes period. The only thing kinda odd is we used the stock lines for the kit if that makes a difference? Anyways after we got the rotors/calipers on we went forward in bleeding the brakes (left rear/front passenger/rear right/front driver) I was pumping he was humping^^ lol But no anyways all seemed well and we went forward.. Thing is we bled the whole system and went to test it and the brakes are not working. The pedal has almost no resistance so we re-bled the brakes AT LEAST 3-4times ALL AROUND.. prolly like 15times each caliper... STILL NOTHING! We reviewed all the walkthroughs/readings and we followed it to the teeth and are clueless on what is going wrong. Pumped the brakes and it looks as if the reservoir will go down then as you let off/seconds afterwards it'll refill(idk if this makes a difference). But I pumped the brakes several times/even just put the wheels back on to see maybe if I was just crazy. The brakes don't work. When bleeding the brakes they showed resistance when pumping them(slowly) but when the car is on.. Nothing.. :{
PLEASE if you have ANY CLUE what is going on give me your input/advice! I will write up a more detailed description of the full install/issues tomorrow when I am fully here..

::UPDATE:: I corrected the calipers/got everything connected right but the braking is still somewhat soft.. I am almost positive it is because of the PADS though. The front PADS are nearly gone and the back are halfway. Hopefully I am guessing once I get fresh pads on there everything will feel right and will perform as should.. I am holding off on SS lines for the moment seeing as how these well never see a track.. But soon I will for sure upgrade to SS lines...
pics soon :}

Welcome to my world when doing this over 2 years ago!! Did your kit not come with SS brake lines, these make the big difference on the BBK. When you installed the calipers is the bleeder screw on the bottom or the top? If the bleeder screw is on the bottom you will NEVEr be able to get rid of all the air in the lines, hard to get air out of the system if the bleeder screw is lower than the highest point on the calipers!!! Just switch the calipers to the other side of the car to solve this problem.
Hope this helps, keep us posted. The BBK & SS brake lines will make your car stop with ease, also don't forget to seat in the brake pads correctly. Lastly use a decent brake fluid, i like DOT 4, possibly the blue German stuff or NAPA dot 4 off the shelf.

didnt read through the thread but you can not properly bleed the brakes without a power bleeder. people say you can but good luck. and of course the bleeder valves facing up!
That guy said he SS Lines wouldn't be compatible for my AP Racing kit(i think hes a retard because OEM Z lines work fine.. just make em stainless.. doh) but he said he only does brembo+stock so he sent me a refund.. i need SS Lines for AP Racing BBK.. who should i goto! lol i nee dthese ordered asap! and what Brake Pads would u suggest for Daily Driver Use?
Relax, so the calipers were on the wrong sides & now able to bleed em correctly right?? Problem 1 solved, now on the SS brake lines I found a local shop where I live that could make me a set for about $85.00, look around. I like Hawk brake pads, personal preference, low dust and no noise. Did the seller give you the pads that came off his car, & if so what do they look like, wear wise??
Tell me you fixed the calipers issue right?? Wait till you get the SS brake lines & new pads if that is what you decide to do & then go with the dot 4 brake fluid. How do the new brakes feel??

im not gonna drive the Z until i get the SS lines.. i needa find some online(or you can you have ur shop make them and send em to me and be a good friend@!?#(*&@$) and the pads I am debating whether or not to replace the front pads.. they are used but the rear pads are good but the front are kidna slim.. another couple of months they will need to be replaced.i fixed the calipers but i took off the old lines until i get those fresh ones on.. and on the CAP of th brake resevoir it says DON'T USE ANYTHING other than DOT 3... so why use dot4?

How to Change your Car’s Brake Fluid

Changing your car’s brake fluid is rarely mentioned in tune-up guides and the like. But it is important, especially with car’s being held for longer periods of time.Every year is not necessary, but the fluid should be changed at least every two years. Although the brake fluid itself never goes bad, it is hydroscopic, meaning it has a tendency to absorb moisture — something it’s supposed to do anyway. But it doesn’t take much moisture to make the fluid less effective. You can’t really stop moisture from entering the brake system because the system is vented. The rubber brake hoses used are also permeable. Every time you open the master cylinder to check or add fluid, moisture is absorbed. Since the contamination process is a very, very slow one, it isn’t something to worry about, but flushing your brake system is a good thing to add to your automotive maintenance list.

It seems as though you have WAY TOO much braking for just a daily driver, big waste of $$$$ for just a DD!!! You will be fine wif dot 3 and the OEM brake lines. I thought you were intending to track the car often.
I'm sorry, but that is absolutely, completely UNTRUE - (and I sell and stock tons of power bleeders). A Power Bleeder speeds the process, but it is by no means needed, or essential - it's a convenience item

this is sorta why you should deal with people who know what they are talking about in the first place
